I wonder how it would work if you did what she said and got a new one? :D

Mine hates the smell of hops. As soon as that lovely floral smell makes it out of the kitchen and into to my living room the complaining starts. I thought of buying a turkey burner and moving it outside.............heck they are on sale for $40 at bass pro.............then I thought about it more and ............nahhhhhhh she can live with it :) :mug:

I suspect that most spouses who "don't like the smell" really "don't like the brewing" and embrace the opportunity to complain about the smell. We're funny animals.

Honestly, brewing doesn't smell unpleasant. It smells bready. Are all these complainy wives wrinkling their noses every time they eat a sandwich, too?

Non-issue for me because the gf loves beer. :ban:

My wife said and I quote "then get a new wife"

Keep telling mine I'm going to trade her in for a couple 20 year olds I can train right.

First kitchen brew, a few soft to medium comments about the smell but nothing worth trading her in for. Damn. I was really looking forward to those 20 year olds....

Better late than never...

My kitchen is at the end of a hall. To contain the smell I open all of the windows in the kitchen and one window in the next room. The hot air from the rest of the house gets sucked into the kitchen and out. The window in the next room acts like the valve of fresh air. I've been able to fairly successfully quranteen the odors this way... In a way that keeps the ole wife happy.

It took a while to get the window setup right, but in the end it's paid off. Any lingering smells seem to go away in a matter of hours. It's worth a shot!

I have one right now, but won't trade her in. She actually likes the smell and the process. She'll be 21 in a few days though, so then she can "finally taste my product."
:ban:
But seriously, she didn't like it the first time I brewed but came to accept and eventually like the aroma.

That's kind of weird to me because I really don't like the smell of it and the wife doesn't mind it.. The last 3, and first 3 times, I constantly asked her if the house stunk... She said, "No.."

Well... She's a keeper..... because she did bore two kids for me.. :D

I love the smell of the actual mashing/cooking process, probably because it smells like bread to me.

Most of the time the fermenters smell pretty good to me, but this last batch was kicking some mad sulphur that I didn't even notice until a few days later when I was trying to identify where the "strange smell on my clothes" was coming from.

Oh yeah, fermentation funk.

Moved that sucka out of my room and back into a larger room.

I guess it depends on what's fermenting / the yeast being used. An air purifier can help keep the air circulating and a carbon filter on the air cleaner helps with some of the funk.

My SWMBO also dislikes the smell of the beer while I am brewing it. She doesn't like it but she knows I love to brew beer... so she puts up with it. We are waiting until we can afford a house which will probably be in about 2-3 years to start outside brewing. Although my sister-in-law has a house and I have her husband very interested in brewing so he said I can come over and brew any time I would like. My SWMBOS parents also have a turkey fryer I can have, guess they haven't used it since they got it a couple years back.
