I just recently purchased a bottling tree and most comments on here say that people will sanitize the bottles and then place the bottles back on the bottling tree to dry. I will being using the idopher stuff but how safe will it be to put that plastic back up the middle of the bottle??

also, a note to the moderator who loves morebeer.com, they don't send their grain ready to put in the water. all kits i have purchased before came with a nylon bag... i am not very happy to have to wait another week to get started because i didn't get a ready to go kit!

if you're waiting a week to get a nylon bag for your grains - head over to your local home depot and get a paint strainer bag. wait over

I put my sanitized bottles on the bottle tree to dry. It usually takes three batches in the sanitizing/ bottling bucket to get all the bottles clean. Each batch I sanitize a couple segments of the bottling tree along with the bottles. Also I do not use the very bottom segment to keep the flip tops from dragging on the unsanitized base.

I have found the bottle tree to be a HUGE timesaver.

Before I sanitize any bottles, I sanitize the bottling tree. No worries about the plastic then... it's clean.

also, for the grain issue, just put the grains directly into the water in a smaller pot. Pour this through a strainer into your 'real' pot after the steep is done. You don't really need a bag of any sort.

Yea, I spray Star San on the bottle tree, but then again I rinse the bottles after I use them, leave them on the tree then shoot sanitizer in them before use.. that little squirty thing I got for the bottle tree is $$

I have contemplated a tree when I see them on Ebay, but didn't know if they were worth it, or a huge pain in the a$$...

I guess I'm shopping... ;)

I bought a bottle tree before I bottled my last batch, great tool. Well worth the investment. It kept all of the bottles with in reach and made for a smooth bottling session.

Howdy Ya'll,

I ain't made any posts in a while as I am so broke I ain't had any makins.
Now, having 'scored' a 55 Lb box of pale DME, up at the Homebrew Headquarters in north Dallas yesterday, I am gettin in the mood to not only brew but post.
Actually I am in the mood to get drunk too,
so, escuse me I'll go get me a shiner.
Ahhhh !!! There.

My rangetop burners, all four, are fixed!
Freezer is defrosted and making ice for cooling.
I gotta go get some propane and stop by the Aggie feed store where my friend from 1959, {the fourth grade} is the manager and pick up some Old English Game Bantams.
Got some store bought beer,
" and I got me some wine... "
Savoy Brown is boggie-ing on the record machine over there...
Soon I will be brewing.
I can't wait.

But about bottle trees...

I love my bottle tree and would find it quite a hassle to brew without my 'tree.'
I dunk it upside down in the big bucket full of Idaphored water before I sanitize the rest of the equipment.
Been leaving it way too long, like 15 minutes.
But I don't care.
Then rinse with boiled water,
and I am a brewing 'Knife.'

Old Engish Game Bantams are chickens.
Smaller breeds of game chickens like those the ancient brittons used to fight. When the romans were in brittan, AD 44,
everybody would sit around and dig the chicken fights.
Now the 'bantams' are smart and friendly as a dog.
Sweet and attentive and I wouldn't think of eating one.
They are pets.
They can fly for miles,
OEG bantams are like wild birds,
before domestication.

I asked Randy what are the full sized Old English Game Chickens like?

He looked right in my eye and said with great emphisis,
MEAN!

gotta go for some propane Ya'll.

I have 2 trees. My first one is solid. My second one rotates. I recommend getting the one that rotates.:D It's so much easier to use,

No bottle tree needed if you have dishwasher. Use the dishwasher rack if you have one.

The only issue with that is I'm going to bottle downstairs in my brewroom (shop)... this way I'm not clogging up the kitchen along with kids, SWMBO, dog...

So a tree will probably be more handy and I'll probably stress less that way as well... ;) (thanks for the advice on the rotating variety Bill)

Oh, and the last batch of bottles soaking for label removal are in the cooler right now... once they're off, that little process to get back up and running is complete...
