Hey Guys, I'm visiting Boston and I was wondering if any of you guys know where I could buy styrofoam wine shippers so I can take some beer back home. Any help is appreciated. Cheers

Good luck... no, but seriously, people ask this question occasionally, and I have no clue. I've always had to order them online... Never seen them at stores in the area.

^yup same. Had luck one time at a random wine shop but that was it.

Could you order it online and have it delivered to your hotel/house you're visiting for when you're staying there?

The only place I've known to carry shippers is Marty's but they are the ones where you lay the bottle horizontally and put them in that egg carton-like enclosure

I'm going to be in town in a few weeks for the Cambridge 5K (Team Notch) and was wondering if you guys thought Lord Hobo Brewing is worth my time.

From where I'm staying in Cambridge I think its like a 30-35 minute drive, which I don't mind making. I definitely would at least like to get some cans of Boom Sauce or or whatever else they've got out that's fresh, just because I've not had anything from them yet, but I'd still like a local take on whether or not I should make any sort of concerted effort to get up there.

Also, if anybody is looking for anything from Carton, Kane, or maybe Other Half, I'm open to IP trades.

Haven't had their beers since August but unless the recipes have improved drastically it's not worth the drive. Cans are distributed all around the city if you're really itching to try them.

Lots of places that have cans are still the batch from August. WOO BIRTHDAY BATCH 8/13 CANNING!

If anyone didn't get their fill of burbincountry on Black Friday, supreme put out ~40 cases on the floor at $7.99 per. More than last year and last year they lasted until almost June.

There today and still ~8cs left on the floor. I grabbed a case of '15 and a case of '14 last time I was there, and am having a tough time passing it up today.

I know I'm gonna cave and grab one of those last cases soon. I can feel it in my plums.

If you already have stuff from Other Half or Carton I see no reason to downgrade to Lord Hobo. Even though the beers have improved since opening I wouldn't buy them over Night Shift's IPAs.

Personally I would skip all of that and just go to Trillium.

Skipping everything and going to trillium is the correct answer

Obtaining all of the Trillium is of course on the agenda. I plan to stop in Canton on my way into town on, then maybe go to Fort Point as well that day to get whatever else I can. Then, if it works out schedule-wise, I'll probably stop in Canton again on my way out of town for grumblers.

But based on everything I've now read, I think I'm going to skip a trip up to LHB. I'll try and get a few cans anyway though.

As for the Carton, Kane, Other Half stuff, my SO is a huge fan of Night Shift's Funk'd series, and I think we've missed the Ella and Nelson releases. So if anybody has an extra bottle of either/both, I'm definitely ISO. And since its IP, I'm more than happy to grab growlers if thats what you want.

Of course I spend all this time trying to figure out whether or not Lord Hobo Brewing is worth my time, and then they announce that they're expanding distro into NYC.

Anyone go to any new or interesting restaurants with decent beer lists recently? Trying to pick out where to make my GF bring me on my birthday but feeling uninspired.

Alden and Harlow is by far my favorite restaurant in the area and the beer list is pretty great. Nothing super rare but a well-rounded and always rotating list of great beers.

Brewer's Fork or Worden Hall?

Been to the Fork but not Worden Hall. Seems like a fancy comfort food and deep dish pizza place? Beer list looks good though.

Check out Branch Line in Watertown if you haven't already. Solid food, good beer list, reasonable prices (unlike so many other places in the area). Owned by the eastern standard, row 34, island creek people.

I've been going to worden hall lately. It's really the only good beer bar in Southie and the food is solid. I'd definitely recommend the deep dish pizza. Overall, I feel like if you've been to one good gastropub you've been to almost all.

I'd also throw Bisq (Bergamot's new sister restaurant in Inman sq) into the mix. Very small place with a cozy bar in the back. Short but decent beer selection, interesting food, great wine. Order the grilled duck hearts just for yourself.

And Loyal Nine, down the street, is good too. Food is all based on historical New England recipes

Have you been to La Brasa? Not really a great beer place, but man, I love that restaurant.

My GF went to Alden without me at some point so I haven't been yet. That might be the pick. La Brasa has been on my radar, but I didn't know they do cart/bring to table meats. I love bring to table meats. Looking for some good beer on my birthday, so maybe not that for this night though. GF mentioned Branch Line since we love Row 34, etc., looks like it opened 3 months ago? Good but not wow-y?

Yes, you need to go to Alden if you haven't been yet. The cart meat at La Brasa is great but it's absurdly expensive and not usually what I end up going for.

I honestly enjoyed the food way more at Branch Line than Alden. Branch Line probably won't be the best meal you've ever had but it won't disappoint.

I'm not sure I've found a place in the area that's really stood out with great food and great beer (except for Row 34).
