Have been completely unable to find bottles of regular 3F Oude Geuze around Boston for the last couple of weeks so I just totally overreacted and bought all the remaining Golden Blend on the shelf at a couple of stores.

.....whoops.

Did you wipe out Golden Blend at BWX? I just keep passing on it assuming it will be there forever.

Liquor World on Friday had Doesjel and Oude Kriek if you're looking for either.

Vermont hasn't seen shelf lambic for months. Y'all are lucky.

All lambic in VT goes to restaurants or it seems is only available at HFS. Really want some more golden blend and Doesjel

Haha no did not make it to BWX.

Have tons of Kriek already, although want more Intense Red and that seems to have disappeared from the shelves too... I assume you mean Golden Doesjel? Had one Saturday, it's tasty but for $25 a bottle I'll pass. Now, if there's more '06 Doesjel 750s like there was a few months back, point me in their direction ASAP.

Check liquor world for intense red.

Yup Golden Doesjel, keep forgetting they're different. I wasn't a huge fan of it, especially with that price tag

Look's we're getting New Holland here now, the beer isn't very exciting but have you guys tried the spirits yet? Curious about the beer barrel bourbon

Yep, it's ok. Super sweet, which kinda makes sense, I guess? If you ever want to come over and have a pour of it or want a sample vial, lemme know, I have an opened bottle hanging around courtesy of funkyaudio.

Ball square had intense red last time I was there.

Thanks man, might take you up on that soon

Was anyone at Row 34 Sunday night? Apparently they had Iris on tap. If it were a weekday I would've been all over that.

$15 for a 13oz pour isn't the worst, I wouldn't mind having that option more often around here.

Random story,
Last time I went to Row 34 I was going to put my name on the list and the NERAX group was about to sit down for pre-session C ACBF dinner and offered to let me and my friend Jan sit with them so we didn't have to wait over the hour for a table. They were the nicest group and I really would have liked to have an actual beer conversation but I had a few too many samples at session B and was slammed and was probably slurring like an *******. Hope they didn't take offense because they were awesome and I hope to chat again someday where I'm much more sober and can actually learn from people who know much more than I do about beer.

Also I don't understand why Row 34 goes soft and puts only half of 1 shrimp on each slider but they really are delicious.

Nope. Draft Iris sounds great though. I loveeeee Iris from the bottle. Snagged a bottle last week at Gordon's. Is it just me, or have there been a TON of Loons around Boston this year? I've bought like... three or four this year already in Boston.

Yeah I think they had it on Saturday too but I prefer not to pay the BSFW tax on lambic if I can help it.

A bunch of Intense Red when I was at Craft Beer Cellar earlier this week. $21/bottle. Not sure if that's in your range and/or you're still on the hunt.

Went to the Aeronaut opening today. Really cool space and had a lot of fun. Beer is average at best. Two hoppy offerings (pale and a "hoppy table beer") that were fairly malt forward. A hefe and kristallweizen that were as you'd expect for the style. Imperial stout was solid and probably their best effort relative to style. Saison was the only one I felt was poor; had a spiced flavor like rosemary that just didn't work for me.

Mostly non-offensive stuff to hammer down if they have a cool event going on there. If I saw any of it in bottles or on draft elsewhere, I'd likely pass.

this is disappointing as the space is very close to me, but for some reason didn't expect any different than you report.

Any idea what their pedigree is? Seemed like nice enough guys, but not as knowledgeable as one would hope. At one point they announced a "pairing" which turned out to be them suggesting you try the hefe/kristallweizen side by side then do the same with the pale/table beer. They claimed they were only going to pour each pairing for separate 15 minute windows. The patrons and staff all seemed equally puzzled how this was supposed to work. A couple people thought they were going to be handing out samples, but apparently they just wanted everyone to buy one of each. My buddy and I attempted to play along, but they had to change over the kristall keg. So the bartender just poured whatever people wanted. A little bizarre.

That does sound strange. I think they are out of MIT and the brewer used to brew at Rapscallion/was a cellarman for NERAX. I'm interested to see how playing it safe/brewing "traditional" styles will fare for them. I'm sure all the yuppies in Somerville will be all over it so they will survive for a while.

Yeah, people aren't going to stop getting jazzed over local-for-the-sake-of-local anytime soon. Found this nugget in an MIT article about them:

They have even tried making two batches of the exact same beer with different yeasts. The result? Two completely different tasting beers. “From a scientific perspective you are changing one variable,” said Friedlander. “You can get some interesting results and actually draw conclusions from them.”

If that's a revelation...

Looks like I'll be attending a trade show in Boston July 13th-16th. I'm getting my itinerary on Friday since I'm a late replacement sub for someone else that dropped out, so hopefully I have enough free nights away from the client to enjoy some local stuff. Hopefully some of you TBer's will be free as well to meet up. I'm staying at the Omni Parker House hotel.

I've been looking and I'm going to try to hit Nightshift, Trillium and Mystic brewery-wise and then Lord Hobo and Publick House dinner-wise.

Anything else I'm missing? Perhaps a good bottle within walking distance (mile or two) of the hotel? Appreciate any feedback.

If you have free time or don't want to schlep out to Publick House (which, don't get me wrong, is well worth it - but there's little/nothing else out in that area that's going to be worth your time), you're less than a mile from Row 34 which would also be a killer place to get dinner, and right next to Trillium. Hard to get reservations though. I'd check OpenTable now.

Happy to crack some bottles if I'm around that week, I should be.
