I just brewed my first wort and it seems like a lot of water got boiled off in the process. Used a mini mash kit and an hour boiling hops with no lid in a 24 qt pot.

Should I over compensate on water next time or leave the lid on the pot???

Started with 2.5 gallons, ended with much less

Thanks

Just fill the fermenter up to whatever amount you want with tap/bottled water after you're done with the boiling and have poured the wort in the fermenter.

Saw your other post. welcome. With the AHS kits I steep and boil 3 gallons, it makes it a little easier to avoid burning and inevitable caramelization of sugars from the extract. The recipes they provide are good and you can follow them to the letter or not, it's really personal preference. As long as you end up with the volume they tell you to be at you should be ok.
