Now that I have your attention (How many people post with that title), I have a questions about something that came out of my water pipes the last time I was washing out my fermenter.

A tiny dap of bright greenish/bluish crud came out of my household pipes! Never seen anything like it before. I wiped the single drop of the stuff off my fermenter (from the inside). It was kinda greasy so I wiped at it.

I then played with the spout (in the bathtub) while the water was running and several large snots of the stuff shot out and stuck to the tub. I'm assuming this stuff is copper rust or copper sulphate (as it looks similar to the google images I found.

So the thing is, there's were no visible signs of the stuff in the fermenter prior to use, and It was rinsed but the stuff is greasy and sticky and I was in a rush that last time I threw a batch together and forgot to give it extra care.

A few drops of the stuff are still in my tub (Let it to see how easily it would dissolve), and seems to not want to leave. Does not seem to dissolve well at all. Like oil and water.

Any anyone else see this before? I'm planning on dumping the batch and cleaning it out (sterilizer probably won't do a good enough job). Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or live to tell of their beer. Apparently trace amounts are ok, but Given some of the side effects listing in Wikipedia...

So has this happened to you? It's municipal water and not a well, BTW.

Cheers.

I would probably save some of that and call a plumber. I don't live in Canada but I would assume that it is not good to have chunks of greasy stuff coming through your pipes into your drinking water

If it was hard and crumbly I'd say it was copper corrosion but not snotty and greasy. Snotty and greasy stuff often accumulates in the drain but not the water supply! I'd call your water department right away and maybe ask your neighbors if they've had a similar problem!
