So, 7 days after pitching my second beer, a BB American Cream Ale, I took a sample and measured a SG of 1.010 or 1.011, which is spot on for the estimated F.G! The sample was very easy drinking, pale, and very subtle hops. Perfect, I think.

I'd like to bottle it tomorrow, setting aside half a gallon in a growler with some blueberry puree to secondary for 2 weeks. My question is: how much blueberry puree should I add for half a gallon?

Nothing yet? Damn, I'm wanting to do the same. I read somewhere else on here (20 pages or so ago) that another brewer was worried about his beer turning purple....have you heard that before?....I'm looking for something like Sweetwater Blue...you?

I have a "Homebrewer's Garden" book and in it, it has a few old time recipes using various herbs and spices.

One of them was a take on an ancient Pict ale. the original recipe was lost as the last remaining Pict decided he would rather jump off a cliff than give up the Picts' Heather Ale recipe to the conquering Celts.

the recipe used a good amount heather in the boil, and then a bit more in secondary. apparently the heather in secondary will turn the ale purple.

"Heather - Heather imparts a spicy, complex bitterness and a deep purple color to beer. Use 1-5cups of flowers late in the boil for flavoring and aroma, add 1cup of flowers dryhopped for a purple color and a strong heather flavor."

The cream ale itself is delicious. While I was bottling I set aside half a gallon in a growler on top of a pound of crushed blueberries. I will be bottling it later today. It is hard to tell how the final taste will be after carbonation, but ya, it is a very deep purple-y/red.
