Hello,
I have been using Northern brewer 6 gal buckets for fermenting. I use a 1/2" hose for a blowoff tube that goes into a small bucket with the end of the hose about 2-3 inches below water line. Last time I used this setup I noticed there was a bug in the overflow bucket. Does anyone know of a way to absolutely prevent anything from crawling into my fermenter? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think preventing suck-back would put you in good shape. (For example by cold crashing, or lifting the overflow bucket too high) I realize this doesn't "absolutely" prevent it, but it seems to me that any bugs I've seen that get under the surface of a bucket of water are dead. Hope that helps.

Bugs can't dive so as long as there is sanitizer in the bucket you will be okay. You could also use a quart or gallon jar with sanitizer and cover it with foil to keep the bugs out. Rather than bugs trying to swim suck back is a bigger problem. Make sure your blow off bucket/jar is well below the bottom of the fermentor.

Thanks for the reply guys. It was just a little disturbing to see that, dont want it in my beer :)
