A blow off tube is the right call. Make sure everything is sanitized while cleaning up/switching to the tube.

The general idea is to get some tubing and run it from the fermenter to a cup/bucket of liquid. I put a stopper in the fermenter with the tubing coming out to ensure a seal. My cup at the other end of the tube is filled with StarSan. You also want to sanitize all parts of this system while setting it up.

I use a 1 inch tube from Lowes. They fit snuggly in a glass carboy, and for a better bottle, I drilled a stopper to fit the hose. I also use two 3/4 cpvc elbows so the hose is not bent.

I use a 3 piece airlock with a hose on the tube inside the airlock. So far it has never clogged, but I know the day it does will be messy, so I'm looking for a big bore hose setup.
