I'm going to brew a black ipa and am tryin to area away from crystal malts to see the effects.

Has anyone brewed an ipa with no crystal or honey malt?

I'm looking at
11# 2 row
1.25# Munich
.25# oats

Why would anyone use honey malt in an IPA?

I think an IPA needs a little crystal, but not much

I've used honey malt instead of crystal a number of times and it is always fantastic. IMO give me honey malt over crystal malt the majority of the time.
