So today I visited my local MoreBeer! HBS and picked up the hops and yeast for my next batch. I informed one of the employees there that I have two carboys filled with a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA clone that should be finished this Saturday. I also informed him that I forgot to purchase my whirlfloc tabs on my last supply run, but my buddy and I decided to move on with the brew anyhow. The OG was 68, higher than intended, and is noticeably cloudy. He informed me that I should try Biofine by adding it to the fermenter, stirring, allotting 72 hours to work, and dropping the temperature to below 40F.

Some more applicable information: I also purchased two vials of WLP001, some DME, and whirlfloc for later.

I called back because I was concerned about the Biofine dropping all of my yeast out because I plan to bottle condition. A different employee answered and stated that I do use the Biofine I shouldn't drop the temperature below 55F, to allow the same amount of time, and that I should pitch some US05 into the bottling bucket on bottle day.

I don't have a problem going back and buying some US05 to be safe, but I think there might be a "better" way.

Here is my thought process: ( I appreciate any advice/ links )

Mr. Malty's calc states I need 600 billion cells for my next batch of 1.080 strong ale in a 3.85 L starter.

Is it possible, to make a starter big enough to use my WLP001 for bottling my IPA?

How does one begin to calculate this mess?

Should I just buy the US05?

Thanks for reading!
