Just out of interest, anyone do BIAB for large size batches? I mean, is it even possible for something large, like more than 100 liters?

You start running into bag strength issues from the weight of the grains.

There certainly is a point where a MLT is a better choice. For me that is about five pounds. I have a MLT that I can easily (and efficiently) mash 50 pounds in though.

From what I've been reading, the practical limit looks to be somewhere around 8-9 gallons. But I guess that doesn't answer your question per se.

Sorry, whats an MLT? is that the Mash Tun?

When ive seen these 3 kettles setups, i dont understand the need for 3.. is one there only to heat water and nothing more? Really only need 2..

Im mainly wondering the largest size possible, cause i was reading that with BIAB you can mill the grain superfine and only do 10 minute mash!

That sounds like a great money saver with not wasting time, power or gas to brew the same beer..

A MLT is as simple as a cooler and a lauter device. Mine is a 70 qt Coleman extreme and a length of drilled PEX. I heat water (HLT) on the same burner I boil on. I do use a differnt kettle to heat the sparge on, that way my boil kettle is free to accept the first runnings.

I think you're asking a question akin to what is the biggest pizza possible or what is the biggest donut possible: it is however big you want to try.
