Hi there,

My wife talked me into buying two large wine barrels for decoration purposes and we used one. I now have a nearly 60 gallon beauty laying around that I want to fill with a wheat everyone loves. Imagine going to a spring party and the host knocks a wooden tap into a barrel. Right? Good stuff!

So, there has to be a ton of stuff I'm not aware of. What do I need to know about this before I waste a couple days brewing and my guests time coming over to try bunk beer?

Thanks!

I did a little research... This is much more complex than I first thought.

From what I understand, sour beers are your best bet in a used wine barrel. And those could take a year or more.

Do you have a club? If I were you, I would have a club brew day and rack 11 (or 6) batches into it, and then let it go to town. Get together and take samples every few months, and when it's ready, have the whole club and friends get together for a big party. And split what's left over amongst the brewers
