Just get a sheet of silicone (like the baking kind) and cut your own?

If you look at that lid, there's a small lip just inside the edge that centers the lid in the opening. I actually do have a silicone mat I could use, but I don't think I can cut a 6" circle out of it that would work.

Sudden thought; I wonder if I could invert the lid and glue silicone to that side. No lip, if I remember right.

I'm going to drill with a step bit. Safest way I think. I'll clean the hole with a deburring tool. Works well on plastic (in fact, just used it about 20 minutes ago on some :).

I want a spigot that's got a racking arm on the inside, so that when I turn the outside the arm rotates and allows me to choose where I draw the beer from. That way, I can set it to just above the trub line.

Northern Brewer still sells the one for the better bottles. It's almost perfect (though six of them is going to be $$$). I might have one here already that I can experiment with.

Wow, that's expensive. The step drill is a better idea than what I used.

Yea, that's kinda what I was thinking. Homemade gasket. I think this was discussed ad infinitum back in one of the original "My BMB lid sucks" threads.

I've got six without spigots. I think I'd like to add them now. Any advice on that?

Here's a pic:

Btw, the scratches on the fermenter are on the outside. :)

I have two of the ported BMBs and I am eyeballing the fermonsters for future use. There is this awkward bubble pattern that is molded into the reinforcing ribs and it is a bitch to get the krausen material cleaned out of there.

I also have been using non-ported BMBs for about 2 years, I hate that stupid bubble pattern! it's terrible to get the krausen cleaned from there and it irks me that it serves no purpose but for looks on the shelf before it's sold. I'm looking for new fermentors sometime soon, and am thinking of the fermonster, or more likely I may go with one of the budget stainless options like a chapman univessel or anvil fermentors. I figure if I have to pay $30 for a plastic fermentor that needs to be replaced every 3-4 years, doesn't it make sense to lay down $100-120 for stainless and be done? I do really enjoy watching the beer at high krausen though, so i'd lose that.
