Can anyone give me what would be the largest size that would be possible with the BIAB method....I need to fill some barrels so looking to make about 55 gal per run and was wondering if it is at all possible to get to this size of a brew!! Anyone have any experience with large batches? thanks.

If Wilserbrew doesn't chime in here I would sent him a a PM. I believe he mentioned in a prior thread designing a bag to accommodate a similar batch size.

Then it's just a question of sorting out how to lift the bag.

ive seen 4BBL professional German breweries that are single vessel like that.. but yeah Wilserbrew has made 55gallon bags before im pretty sure.

Thanks everyone for ur reply, glad to see that I'm not just dreaming here. Very good news indeed!

One thing to keep in mind with BIAB is your efficiency will go down with larger grain bills. You may need to use some extra grain and pour some water on your bag for something that size.

This is not my experience. I hit 80 percent mash efficiency all the time. I've done 4% English ales to 10+% imperial stouts. I think the key is a fine double crush.

Hey Wilser....if you made one for a 80g groen soup kettle... Would it be able to hold 150-200 lbs dry grain when its wet? Like if I had a winch would it tear the bag to lift all that out?

Not a problem, the bag will take the weight without issue. As the grain bill grows, so does the size of the bag....very large bag equals very strong bag....

I'd worry more about what the pulley is attached to, to lift these big bags, than I'd worry about the bag and mash process.

You're right on with the engine hoist....that's exactly the plan...just have to modify mine to make sure it's high enough in the air to get the bag out of the pot.
