I make 5 gallon batches so I'll need something larger for the boil. I plan on retiring my old turkey pot for something a little fancier.

I'd like to stay under $150 if possible. Thanks for your suggestions.

I have this one and it's fantastic. Great price:

Are you boiling on a propane burner? It's important to know because some large diameter pots won't boil on a stove-top (at least not for a very long time).

I'd get the largest pot you can afford if you're on gas or plan to go heating element. If it has installed bulkhead that's a huge plus as you won't have to drill stainless and install....but if you're into that sort of thing you can usually do it cheaper yourself.

The Weld 9g SS is a helluva deal for that size with bulkheads. I'd go that route if you're sticking to 5g. batches. I use a 8g. pot and have had some near boilovers but mostly just fine. 9g. is even better if you have the heat source to boil it.

I use the Spike brewing 10 gallon with the ball valve and the thermometer, I think for the welded pot and the accessories it was right at $160.

I found it easier to whirlpool and move my wort through an auto siphon in a kettle without a thermometer or ball valve. Also, what do I need a thermometer for on a "Boil" kettle. And you save $60!

I do BIAB.

I have the Bayou Classic 44 qt. (11 gallons) SS. I bought it in a package deal with a perferated basket that fits it perfectly for BIAB. I got both for $88.00, I think $102.00 after shipping.

I then added a ball valve and dip tube from Bargin Fittings for about $35.00.

If you are doing traditional brewing, you could get the pot without the basket and the fittings for a little over $100.00.

It's a great pot!

I have a thermometer on mine because I don't have a three tier or brewstand, I use my kettle as my HLT as well to heat my mash and sparge water. Also I use a copper immersion chiller in my kettle so the thermometer lets me know when I have cooled enough.
