Golden Promise is a Scottish grown spring barley. The other famous British malt is Marris Otter a winter barley which has different characteristics. What are you making and what is available?

In regards to both this and your other post about a substitute for golden naked oats, is the problem that you can't find them in the beersmith grain list? If that is the case, go to the "add-ons" menu and see if there is a Simpsons malts grain add-on that you don't have installed (there are new add-ons periodically, but you have to install them manually -- very easy, but you have to remember to check occasionally). That should include both of those grains. FWIW, I have both of those listed in my beersmith ingredient bank, so it's definitely there -- it may just not yet be installed in yours.

Or, alternatively, you could research the specs for the grain and add it to your grain catalogue manually.
