Hi,
A got a copy of BeerSmith 2 for Christmas, and I'm trying it for the first time. This is also my first shot at trying a clone recipe.
I do extract brewing, and use a 10-gallon Blichmann BoilerMaker. I set up the equipment profile using information I'd found online for Blichmann equipment. In my case: Mash Tun Volume 10 gal, Mash Tun Weight 13.35 lb, Lauter Tun Deadspace 0.13 gal. I'm not sure if these numbers change between all-grain and extract, but this is what I put in. While I'm on this topic, this information is stored in the clone recipe I entered, but I don't see it in the equipment dropdown list - I assume there's a way to save my equipment setup for future use?
I'm trying a 90 Shilling Clone from Odell Brewing. I got it on the HomeBrew Denver site, and they say it came from the brewer itself. Their recipe is shown as all-grain, but they also show a partial mash option, which I believe is what I do when I extract brew.
They give an OG of 1.068, a FG of 1.023 and a ABV of 5.9%. When I put my recipe into BeerSmith, it shows an OG of 1.052, a FG of 1.017, and an ABV of 4.5%. I don't know how much the extract option changes this - it's basically swapping 6 lb of extra-light DME for 10 lb of 2-Row Malt; all the other grains are the same.
Would the extract option reduce the ABV that much, or do I have something else wrong in the software?
Thanks for your help!
