Hey everyone, I'm planning a trip to NC this summer. I will be in the Leland/Wilmington area. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to visit and beers to try? I'm from Illinois, so even if there is brewery that doesn't distribute there, that I could pick up at a liquor store would be cool. I'm looking for great beer that I cannot get at home. Ready, set, go!.....

Foothills is in Winston-Salem which is almost a 4 hour drive from Wilmington....

Check out Front Street Brewery in Wilmington. The beer isn't Earth-shattering, but it is good and the food is great. There isn't much else out that way that I'm aware of. Cape Fear Wine and Beer is a great bar with lots of interesting beers on tap and in bottle. My favorite place in Wilmington is Dock Street Oyster Bar - great food and close to the river.

Here is a nice map of breweries in the state:

Check out Front Street Brewery in down town Wilmington. Also head over to Wrightsville beach and stop at Light house beer and wine, they should have some NC beers for you to take home.

You being from IL we buy beer in grocery stores and gas stations, our liquor stores say ABC for Alcoholic beverage center. and it more expensive here. That is so you can find it easier.

Awesome! Thanks guys! Keep the suggestions coming. I will definitely make a point to stop at the Front Street Brewery and Cape Fear Beer and Wine.

Does anyone know if New Glarus or Dogfish Head distribute in this area?

Most of the breweries/brewpubs are more in Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, and up in the Mountains (Ashville area). Duck Rabbit is out in the eastern area (a little over 2 hrs from Wilmington), and their beers are pretty good too... In terms of the eastern part of the state, I'm most familiar with New Bern (about 2 hrs from Wilmington). There is a really good taproom/bottle shop there called Beer Army.
