I'm a Chicago native and agree with you, but some good pizza can be found in the area.

In my hometown (Moreno Valley) there is a joint called Chicago Pasta House that has the real deal deep dish.

Yeah, the Portillo's is around the corner from the house I grew up in. I've only been a couple of times, but it has always been good. We also have a local "chain" (i think they have like 3 or 4 places open now) called Romano's that isn't too bad.

I went to a Zacharys in San Ramon, CA recently, had some great deep dish pizza, and they had Stone IPA on tap, not bad at all for a pizza joint!

I'm thinking of making one in a cake pan on the pit bbq with some pin oak. Might be tasty. I noticed yesterday that Giant Eagle has a few new beers in the cooler. Stone IPA & ruination,Breckenrige,& that other "dog" brewery (not thirsty dog) & one other.
