I was just looking at them, and my friend happened to have just purchased one. He got a 30.5 gal. He emailed them and they gave him a 10% off discount. He got it pretty quick and converted it to an electric kettle. Says it's great. He used a Camco #02963 5500W 240V Ripp Element

May want to check on Amazon too. I was able to pick up a 10 gallon aluminum pot and burner (seperately) for pretty good prices.

This thread reminded me of a thread I read on the northern brewer forum where someone was complaining about the quality.

Not sure if you are looking at the same pot, but its worth a read before putting money into it

This was what I was afraid of. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is:)

Bokonon, thanks for the link, I also watched the Youtube video posted in that thread. Pretty scary stuff:drunk:

I wouldn't put all my stock in that video or that post. I think cost v/s usabililty goes a long way. MANY people use those pots and love them.

I have these pots, 3 15.5gal. I do agree that if I hit them with a rubber mallet, they would probably dent. I also think that if I hit a boilermaker, it would as well. I have dropped mine full of water and had no noticeable damage.

The handles are not the best, and I have actually had 1 or 2 droplets come out from the rivets. It takes an extreme situation to do so though.

Overall, I am completely happy with my purchase, and if I could go back I would make the same choice. I have installed ball valves, thermometers, sight glasses, tubes in the lids, it is all still perfectly strong. These pots will save you a bit of money over a megapot or boilermaker, but each has some advantages over the Bayou stuff. Determine if those advantages are important and make your decision, you wont go wrong either way.

+ 1 I also have 3 of the 15.5 gal Bayou pots. They work fine. They will dent if you aren't carefull but so will your car. I put a 5500 watt element in mine and it is the best thing I have done for my brewing. The 15.5 gal pots have a ring around the top to hold a strainer basket. I think that makes them a little stronger than the ones in the video.

Just brewed my second AG with a Bayou Classic 44qt SS pot from amazon. Works great, I don't beat it with a hammer...just brew great beer.

I guess the best advice here is to buy from some place that will accept a return and pay for shipping if you aren't happy with it.

I have one as part of a kit that I purchased at Cabelas - I really just wanted the burner but the pot was included and they were practically giving them away this past Christmas. Doubt that I will use it since I have 2 Polar's (10 + 15 gal). Love the Polar - really solid and while not cheap, fairly priced for what you get. Montanaandy
