Hey all, finally moving out of Oakland in an effort to reverse-gentrify SF. As a way of mourning the fact that I won't be able to walk home from Beer Rev anymore I was thinking of having people over for a first and last east bay bottle share at my place. I move out May 1 so I would have people over on 4/21. Anyone interested?

Location: 1 block from 12th St Bart
Theme: **** I've been holding since moving West and homebrew

I'll be providing:
Bolt Cutter
Hardywood GBS and BGBS
BL Roll for Initiative
Homebrew:
Meyer Lemon Milkshake IPA homebrew
Fight Juice - Peach Mango Green Tea Four Loko Clone

If people can make it I will start a Google doc

I believe I can fill in some details about how transit works, rather than how it Should work.

Don't worry man, I got you.

Public transit in the Bay Area doesn't work well and it should work better.

Any recommendations in the Oakland area of a FedEx location or store where FedEx picks up where you can just drop boxes off at without a hassle? I've been going to the one by Lake Merritt for the past couple years but today the lady looking behind the counter starts in on me with, "What are you shipping here? Sounds like wine?"
"It's not wine."
"Mind if we open it up? If it's not wine, I'll tape it back up."
"Yes I mind. I'd rather not have to repackage everything."
"Well what is it then?"
"Olive Oil and homemade pickled veggies."
"Sounds like wine to me."

We continue to go back and forth until I finally decide to gather all the boxes I brought (4 RB trustee shippers and 3 other small boxes) and gtfo.

tl;dr
I need a new place to drop off boxes. tosh kindly offered up a location but it's a bit out of the way for me.

**** I HAAAATE those kinds of employees.

I had one of those people at my local FedEx and dealt with it by dropping and not sticking around for a receipt. Dropped boxes, and bounced out. One time a guy chased me to my car to ask if I was shipping alcohol - I said "nope! bye!" and just got in and drove away.

Obnoxious as hell.

Happened to me in Pleasanton. Sucked to have to drive back to pick up the box they opened up, pesky ass employees. I guess they didn't want my $50.

Since then, I have just been dropping boxes off at postal annexes, with a label, and ask for no receipt. I just drop off, and walk out. I don't think those places are as anal as actual fedex shops.

I've never been asked at either the college/clairmont or Fruitvale Station locations.

Depends. I've heard some stories of those places being even worse. The one near me seems pretty chill though.

Place near jack London, a mile from beer rev on 3rd st, was awesome over a year ago. Generic mail type place. Had a labels and dropped off plenty of boxes with Zero questions asked. Chill staff.

Shipping is like trading. Personal relationships work best.

My fedex guys always chat me up about what beers I got in the box, ask me beer questions, shoot the **** (you see that game/fight/match?) etc. . .

Small town good ol' boy ********.

I wish the guys at the fedex near my office didn't have a stick up their ass. I did have that relationship with a UPS guy, but UPS became far too expensive compared to Fedex.

For what its worth ive never had problems shipping out boxes if I print the label at home and simply drop off at fedex. Maybe my experience is unique to my local fedex location, but as long as the box is packed and the label is on it they dont care to ask me anything about the box. I dont even need to wait in line, just a simple "dropping off the label is already on it and paid for" and they put it in the outgoing pile for pickup.

There is a manager at the FedEx in Brentwood that shakes up every box being shipped out no matter what. I started dropping everything off at an Office Depot, only problem I've ever had there is a box actually falling off the pallet or some **** as it was being loaded up and they called me and bagged everything up lol
Its weird cause sometimes they'll leave all of your stuff in the public "packing area" for people that are packing **** up to ship. I've never had a box stolen though.
I have dropped off multiple sloshy boxes at the FedEx in Walnut Creek with no questions when I worked out there.

I've had varying success depending on the shop. Downtown Oakland used to be chill, but my regular guy there told.me they've started passing fines on to the local shop when packages get opened or some BS. Between Oakland downtown locking down and no more Styrofoam shippers I've kind of been successfully deterred from the trading scene

Anyone that doesn't hate driving clearly doesn't have to do it that much.

**** man, the option of fighting through endless soul sucking traffic (god forbid you drive a stick - clutch, break, clutch, gas, clutch, break), circling around looking for parking, ******** and self righteous ******** on the road, hefty tickets and associated insurance bumps, remembering to move your car so you don't get a street cleaning ticket, expensive ass insurance that gets even more expensive if you actually use it probably more than enough to offset how much you actually needed it, the "if I have another beer, will I still be okay to drive?" conundrum

or

Get a bike and a Clipper card. Worst case scenario, you have to wait a bit before a train comes to take you wherever you want to go. ******* BART commuters complaining drives me up the ******* wall. Oh really, was your BART commute hard because you couldn't get a seat while you read your phone while someone else drove you home? You were just sitting for eight ******* hours, your body wants you to stand!

Man, **** having a car in the bay area.
i don’t mind the driving part at all

part i hate is ******* traffic! i told my wife i’ll know if i’m in hell if i’m stuck in never ending traffic.

Long shot here, but if anyone knows a pediatrician hiring... a pediatrician, lmk. Job searching in SF is off to a slow start.

I don't know of any jobs, but I know PAMF/Sutter Health, One Medical, and Kaiser are supposed to be pretty good places to work.

Look around Burlingame/San Mateo also - tons of hospitals and clinics in the area. A quick search showed an opening at San Mateo Medical Center, but if you can get in at Mills Peninsula or an associated clinic that's probably a better hospital.

Always tough to move to a new place and then have the stress of finding work, especially one as expensive as SF :(. Luckily there are a ton of hospitals so I'm sure something will pop up.

Not sure if this link will work but I’m organizing a big SARA share in GGP on June 9th. If the link doesn’t post, I’ll edit with more info.

It has been too long since the last one Corey organized. I figured what better way to celebrate my actual birthday than drinking ALL the SARA!

On this day we will be drinking as much Sante Adairius Rustic Ales as we can. This is an open invitation to anyone that wants to share SARA bottles.

Things to bring:

-Chairs

-Water

-Meats/cheeses/breads/Veggie/fruit platter, or precooked foods and snacks (there is a bbq but you'd be in charge if you wanna grill).

-Taster glasses

-Jacket, in case Karl the Fog visits

-lawn games

-ALL the SARA

We'll be at Lindley Meadow, tables 12 & 13, starting around noon on June 9th. Keep in mind the east side of JFK Dr will be closed, from Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr to Transverse Dr, to vehicular traffic. Parking can be a challenge on weekends. There is the Golden Gate Park shuttle service that is free from 9am-6pm, google them for more info. If it looks like rain, we will reschedule.

I'm in.

Maybe.

Will confirm as we get closer.

But if I do come, you'll be damn sure I'm firing up that grill.

FWIW I print at home and drop off at a third party. The place knows me by now for sure and never asks if I need a receipt, they know I am just dropping off.

I was going to say this. A place like Mail Boxes Etc. They don't give a $hit.

Or print UPS/FedEx labels at home and spend a few extra bucks to schedule a pick up at your house or work. The drivers don't give a fu(k

Lastly, if it's going to a place on the west coast, just use GSO. They are quicker and cheaper and don't care if you're shipping beer. You could literally write, "Careful BEER inside. Don't drink or break the BEER inside" all over the box and they'll ship it.
