Haven't been to Pagan Idol yet, but I prefer Smugglers Cove to Tonga Room. Mostly just because I think the drinks are better. Though I guess one could argue that when you're just getting blasted on some combination of rum, fruit juice, and assorted sugary syrups, they're all the same.
Yeah, I've been to Smugglers, and I will def go again. I just haven't been to Pagan or Tonga yet.

Das it mane! Scorpion Bowl FTW (and headache). Right in my neck of the woods.

That's after maragaritas at Tommy's. Lived nearby for a few years and spent many evenings eating and drinking there. Sampling the insane Tequila section and then those boozy scorpion bowls and with the old school pineapple juice.

****, one inspired evening I did a 2L boot at Suppenkuche and stumbled over Smuggler's for rum shots, Pina Coladas, and flaming punch bowls. Memory starts fading as my buddy and I were shouting DMX quotes.

That's a great 1-2 punch if you really wanna tie one off.

"X gonna bring it to ya!"

The Special Dinner, green enchiladas, is straight kryptonite. Mmmm

Booked a trip for 4th of July weekend. Haven't been in town for a while, never even been to Cellarmaker or Mikkeller Bar. What else has popped up recently? Definitely going to Pagan Idol and Tonga as well.
Tonga Room is awesome for a few drinks, but I do not recommend eating there. Took a friend from out of town once. We had a Rainmaker for 2 (felt like about 16 oz) and split an entree and a side and the bill was like $120. It was plenty of decent food, but def not worth that price tag. Anyway, it is really fun and you should def go and stay there for at least one rain storm.

And if you do end up in the Richmond District, I will third(?) Trad'r Sams. There isn't an individual drink on the menu for over $10 and they make 'em strong AF. The scorpion bowls will get you turnt, too.

Several breweries have popped up in the past few years, but no one is really excited about most of them. Liquid Gold and Crafty Fox are good semi-new beer bars. Old Devil Moon always sports a nice tap list. Almanac has a tasting room in the Mission now...

You should go to Mission Cheese. Beer selection isn’t anything to write home about, but I’ve heard you kinda like cheese.

Yeah, it's more of a "I need to tick this place at least once" as opposed to "wow I really need to have a meal there."

if I have to be in that part of town.

Went to Bartlett Hall the other day. They had 3 really good hoppy beers & a BA vanilla stout that was pretty legit. I'd rather drink there than Mikkeller if I have to be in that part of town.
Easily. Wynn and Nick know what they are doing. Every hoppy beer I have had from them has been very good.

Weird, I'm starting to see Supplication on store shelves for the first time in years. I wonder if the RRBC hype is starting to die down or if they just sent out more than usual.

A certain barn that's full of bottles had so many cases they made an endcap display last week. Cheaper than at the pub too. I like this new reality.

God I hope it's dying down. I used to really like going to the pub but it's just no reasonable any more.

The Windsor thing should help out with that, too. Given that it's further north from where most of the population is coming from, I wonder how much traffic will be diverted that way, though.

I noticed the same thing in Portland a few weeks back. Supplication, Temptation, and Consecration were everywhere.

I think the former. Their reign over hoppy beers ended many years ago, but they still had the sour thing going for them. I think their untouchable status in that world has also dropped a few tiers in recent years.

Never thought I would be saying, "Let's go to Windsor this weekend!."

Well, I did in the past.

RIP Windsor Waterworks.

They still get a ton of attention from mainstream beer drinkers and local media that I don't see their business taking a hit. Pliny is still WAAAAY more well known than anything from Cellarmaker, Alvarado St., Fieldwork and will continue to be especially given the lack of any kind of flagship beers from the ones I mentioned. And mainstream beer drinkers (for lack of a better descriptor) are way more populous than us beer nerds.

Has anybody been to the Fermentaion Lab near Civic Center / SOMA?

They seem to have a pretty good line up. Will probably check it out after going to a friend's office in the area. Usually Toronado is my tuesday spot after school since I can jump on the M line and get off on church and just walk up the hill and its usually not too busy so I can grab a table and read. Feel like this spot would be packed anytime after 3 like most civic center/soma bars.
