I try not to complain about it, but when you cough up $1680 a year for transit, I guess I just expect a little more.
Even if you never use it on the weekend, that's only like $6.50/day. What else is that cheap? NYC is a bit cheaper yearly, but doesn't travel nearly the same distance.

I'm paying $14.10 a day, including the $2.50 BART parking lot fee. Still way better than driving and I don't mind paying this if the service was more reliable.

BART needs a lot mitre $$ to get to the prospect of reliability. Situations like this AM are going to keep on popping up.

It's been pretty good lately, the problem is that they need to completely overhaul the system in order to actually make it reliable, and even then it would take stuff like a second tube to really fix the issues. Given the US's ridiculous infrastructure costs this all takes fucktons of money. It'll hopefully get better since that bond passed.

But yes, I'm working from home today after I arrived at the station and saw "major delays" and the ETAs weren't decreasing. I think the problem happened while I was en route...

This is the unfortunate truth. It's also why I try to not bitch about it. I can't offer a better alternative, save for a zipline from Mt. Diablo to the Ferry Building.

It's a complex problem for sure, but Bart has no one to blame but themselves starting back to the origin of the system. Tack on a complete **** and moronic union and little investment into infrastructure and more into new service lines and we are where we are today.

We have 2x cost for new trainsets and 5x cost for new rails due to completely idiotic decisions. The ties are nonstandard, and I think the rails themselves are as well. Nonstandard means a custom job, we pay for the companies that produce the parts to stop production, set up for the nonstandard parts, make a small run of them, then swap everything back for regular production. What a bunch of clowns.

And don't get me started on their union, nothing gets my blood boiling more than that and I'm a liberal union supporter.

My oldest brother is an IBEW rep, and even he facepalms whenever he hears about BART's union. I think a lot of those private union guys kinda hate the public union folks. Anyway, more of a topic for the Toxic thread.

Anyone have any thoughts on Bare Bottle? I had a small pour of the Boaty McBoatface and thought it was awesome. Great body for a session. Looking fwd to trying more of their ****, though I don't see myself making it up to Bernal Heights any time soon.

I think their hoppy beers are more than decent. I enjoyed the Galaxy Dust quite a bit.

System would be a lot more efficient if Ohio natives stayed home.

Infrastructure costs ain't cheap anywhere these days. Even in the middle east where cheap Indian/Bangladeshi/Filipino labor is used.

Well sure, but Japan and Europe can build the same things we do at 1/4 the cost or whatever. We have particularly high costs.

I can't speak to Japan (or China who definitely does it cheaper), but as someone whose work does that kind of stuff in Europe that's definitely not true

Plus, as soon as there is a $ of Federal money on the project the game shifts and all the costs increase and the regulations and restrictions really kick in.
