I was a whole foods Dublin today and grabbed a couple Helldorado. Other than Parabola, all Boxed Firestone have been easy as **** to get for months after the releases. Is this beer a smaller batch than most of the BA beers they do?

That's a nice offer, but it's not required. I'll be buy Buellton in the near future, and I doubt it is gone from there. I do already know what it tastes like (had it in the Barrel Room 3 weeks ago).

I don't think so. I get the impression FWBA beers tend to hang around in the East Bay places a little longer than in the Peninsula or South Bay, right?

The mongers are in the same dpt. as beer so yes, they probably accrue half of what comes in...also have the capabilities to stash stuff until pay day or as long as bombers go onto their 20% off sale.

With that being said, I have seen plenty of FW boxes still sitting on the shelves in the north bay...you would think that the bay area new monies would have infiltrated the shelves by now.

Went to Monks Kettle for the first time in a few years last night. Food is still great, tap list was good but **** the prices are still stupid. 6oz pours for $9.

On a related note, I really wish that Untappd ratings could be trusted, but way too many casuals use it so everything gets high marks. The BA database is hilariously bad these days; the Taho Mountain stuff has like 1-2 ratings per beer, for something with statewide distro that's pretty pathetic.

Really? I always find that Untappd has lower ratings than expected. Often I would see 90% on BA and, like, 3.5 on Untappd. (And the Untappd rating usually turns out to be more accurate.)

(Also, come on guys. Untappd is for quick, casual check-ins, not long-form beer pontification. Unless you're a journalist, you're not a "moron" for rating a sour low when you don't like the style. Way to suck the fun out of drinking...)

I only use Untappd to tell me what people are drinking at particular place. It's not really built for ratings, IMHO, and besides I find enjoy a beer more when I don't know a rating going in.

FWIW, Helldorado found at the Sunnyvale Bevmo (on El Camino Real near the Mtn View border). $15.99, limit one ("per day" as the cashier clarified for me LOL).

Is there anywhere within walking distance (of that and the Caltrain station) that will have anything worthwhile on tap? At first glance, it would seem that unless I like something that Gordon Biersch has on, probably not...

Not too much. But Umami burger is a few blocks from Rose n Crown. fun burgers and a decent draft list at times.

There is absolutely nothing in Palo Alto. If I were you, I'd take Caltrain to Redwood City and walk to Harry's.

If I were doing the planning, perhaps I would do that. We've already had a few drinks at the Ale Arsenal; he just happened to choose Rose & Crown for this evening. The point is probably moot; not only will I probably not feel like going elsewhere afterwards, I probably won't make it to R&C either. Seem to have a wee bit of food poisoning. So much for those Trader Joe's ready-to-cook things.

Its the best place to grab a beer that's still relatively close to Rose and Crown. I'd put Francesca's selection up there with Harry's RWC, except Harry's wins in the food category.

Yep, it's a sports bar but they have a bunch of craft beer on tap, something like 20+? taps. Best selection in the area, and the food is decent bar food.

That place is pretty close to where I work; I'll try to hit it some day after work (or many).

Edit: why does it show up on Google as "Permanently closed"? (which is why the web site was outdated)

Edit(2): because it is no longer called "Francesca's". Bought out and changed name to O'Malley's, which I have heard of.

Francesca's changed owners and for the worse a while back. And rose and Crown has unfortunately the best list in PA.

Why? You added two useful bits of info (that they aren't as good after being sold, and that R&C is probably as best as I can do in Palo Alto which means I'll just plan hanging around there, when we do this).

Tahoe Mountain just showed up around here - are their beers worth the (kind of steep) price of admission? Today I saw two different BA saison varieties and a BA old ale I believe, at ~$17/500mL. There were also some cheaper bottles that I'll probably just pick up to try, a blood orange saison, a berliner, and a porter.

The blood orange saison is surprisingly a banger and I think pretty cheap ($7?) at the source, and I usually hate most orange beers. I was also surprised by Old Bayard; one of their best showings since Eli left.
