Is anyone planning on camping out at City Beer for their Black Friday GI release party?

I emailed Almanac after their heirloom pumpkin bw I had at perdition was ****. I had a pour at CBS the week prior and knew what it was supposed to taste like and I was worried that the 4 bottles I bought were infected as well. This was their response,

"We are acknowledging that the Heirloom Pumpkin Barleywine that was packaged on 9/2 or 9/3 may have developed off flavors in the bottle due to exposure to our bacterial culture in packaging. If you did purchase bottles from that batch, they are all likely to have the same issue.

We understand you have spent your hard-earned money on our beer and we want to do what we can to correct the issue with you directly. Please accept our sincerest apologies and send us your shipping address. We do hope you enjoy the fresh bottles coming your way.

Cheers,

-The Almanac Beer team"

Pretty cool that they're going to replace my bottles that I had purchased (sent a photo of the bottles).

I'm disappointed to hear they have a legitimate infection, but am happy to hear they are addressing it well. The barleywine is generally great, especially considering they seem to focus on insufficiently fruited sours these days.

BCBS question:
Per usual, I'll be bumming around the east coast on Black Friday this year and my family doesn't quite understand ditching them for a beer release. Last year I was able to swing by Bevmo and get regular BCBS without any hassle the monday or tuesday after.

Any reason to believe this year will be any different?

From my experience last year, many bevmos had a 4/pk limit, and those places stuck around. others had no limits and ran out before the end of friday.

Oh ****, that explains the weird tartness I had in the three bottles I consumed. I might have to send them a message, but the 3 are all recycled.

EDIT: I went ahead and shot them a message anyway. Let's see.

****, I got 4 bottles of this just sitting there I picked up a month ago. May have to open one this weekend and see what's up before it gets worse if infected. Dammit, I was really looking forward to tearing these up over the winter, one of my favorites.

Crap. I am right there with you. I even sent out a couple as extras. Hopefully they are okay.

Just moved my last bottle from last year and a fresh bottle into the kitchen to drink tonight.

Probably the guys who bought a few cases at a time doing that. Over in Sac last year, I was able to buy it all around town for a couple weeks, with a 1 or 2 four pack limit. I was satisfied.

If anyone has a West Ashley they want to trade IP locally, just drop me a message. I'll make it worth your while.

Thanks,
-Steve
Damn, beat me to it Steve. Only after Steve's taken care of, I too am ISO since I'm currently heading to Denver so I'm completely missing this release.

Hey, who you pointing fingers at? Oh..

Ah, you'll be able to tell for sure if there is an issue. Good call.
No way I ill get to the '13 tonight, however the '14 is tasting tremendous ( this bottle anyway). No issues at all, as good as I recall, got a few more to test, but so far so good...I forgot this was tasted so good.
