I've been meaning to ask this for weeks but am so forgetful, are people interested in getting the Bay Area tastings going again at Beer Rev? Things seem to have settled down there, and we have a reasonable platform for it here, and I'm realizing that there are tons of people I don't know and those were great for putting faces to the avatars. Plus I don't try nearly as much wacky beer as I used to.

Anyway I can organize the first few, I'll take suggestions for dates/times and ask my buddy who works there what he thinks.

would you do these on weekends or weekdays? Oakland is a little bit away from me but can make the trip depending on day...

Dunno, depends what people want. During football season weekends are sometimes rough, we alternated Sundays and Thursdays before and attendance was brutal some Sundays, but I can't really do Saturdays. Thursdays were more consistent, but the bar is more crowded.

I'm soliciting input here, so if people have thoughts, let me know.

During the week is probably easiest for me as well. Especially Thursday.

Anyone know of any local Goose Island events going on for Migration Week? It is happening right now in the Bay Area, but Goose Island did not want to give me any information o_O

"Trevor here with Goose Island. Thanks for being patient while I was looking into your request and sorry for getting back to you a little late.

I wanted to let you know that due to some legal restrictions we’re unable to provide you with details about where our migration weeks we’ll be taking place at. With that said, I encourage you to reach out to your local wholesaler. They are also working with us on setting up the migration week events and should be able to provide you with the information. I have listed their information below for you.

Horizon Beverage Co.
8380 Pardee Drive
Oakland, CA 94621
(510) 465-2212"

Weird. My cursory understanding of the law is that you’re not allowed to advertise if you’re going to have, like, 1 or 2 beers on tap at a bar, unless someone directly asks you or you’re doing like a tap-takeover event.

I remember the Beer Rev events awhile back, but was never able to go. Since moving to Oakland, theoretically, I'd be more likely to go and would definitely like to go. It'd be good to meet more like minded folk.

EDIT - Thurs/Sundays should work better for me than other days.

Throw in some Sunday meet ups and I will show up. A lot less likely to show up during the week, but I can try.

I just can't believe Uber classified this an "inefficient route."
Did you read the article? They have an automated complaint system - it probably just compares the route to the most efficient route and comps you if they don't match.

I did. It's still infuriating, because they do whatever they can to avoid providing real customer service. And it's really hard to make a complaint that doesn't go to the automated system.

As opposed to traditional taxi services, which are so responsive to feedback?

I'm in if I can make it! Sunday or Thursday would also generally work for me.

They do have a far higher standard of liability. They all suck at customer service, of course, but at least there are clear lines for remediation.
I don't think this is true. With Uber, they're literally tracking your path via your phone and the driver's. With a taxi, it's your word vs. theirs. Just because they're regulated more doesn't make them safer or better.

But at least their drivers are employees, instead of "independent contractors" at Uber. There's no actual liability resident with Uber for X, at least.

I'm learning far more than I wanted to about independent contractors versus employees. Not every taxi driver is an employee, some are independent contractors as well. Plus, their status as an independent contractor is much more concerning for the driver - it limits their ability to negotiate, get paid breaks, etc. If you were in a serious accident, it's highly likely that the courts would still find Uber at fault.

Hey you Bay Area peeps, anyone want to grab a few beers next week? I'm staying at the Westin St. Francis from Sunday the 19th through Friday the 24th. I can definitely get away Sunday night, and probably Wednesday or Thursday night too. Trying to determine if I should drive down to SARA on Thursday during the day too.

Also, would someone be able to tell me if there are stores within SF proper that carry RR sours? I'm trying to avoid having to drive up to RR (since I'd rather visit SARA). Just want to bring home some Temptation, Consecration & Supplication is all.

No luck, not seen any of those on the shelf for some time. You will have to either head up to RR or arrange an IP.

Yep Temptation was the last release, and I haven't seen any bottles for a while. They went quick.

You might run into a bottle of Damnation, but that is all.
