Barrel Noir maybe?

I don't know why they're using Sourdough starter yeast. I'll probably still try one, but it doesn't sound like a winner.
I thought that was a more a general note. In the upper section they said they used the dogpatch sour culture.

But I agree with you, this sounds like it's going to be a mess.

I haven't disliked any of their barrel-aged beers yet. But I'm going to wait on this one until I hear something from someone I trust.

I dunno - perdition at RR was something similar, yet not bourbon barrel aged. it was delicious.

Perdition is their Biere de Garde. Are you thinking of Propitiation?

It's a stretch to compare these guys to Russian River, though they have gotten a lot better.

3 quick bay area questions:

Any Sucks 32oz sightings?
Any leads on non-limited Abyss sales for next week?
Does Stone deliver in SF today or tomorrow? I know it's Friday in Concord.

...and a fourth: anyone seen Victory DirtWolf since early October? I know it's in SoCal...

Just spent the weekend drinking in the city. Hit up Cellarmaker and Mikkeller Bar for the first time. Loved the IPAs at Cellarmaker; Hop Killah' was amazing. They instantly became a place I need to stop by whenever I'm in town.

Mikkeller Bar was pretty awesome too. Looks great inside, and the staff was very knowledgable.

Been meaning to check out Cellarmaker. How would you describe their IPAs? I read that they were doing something with Simoce and Citra which work amazingly well together in my opinion.

I'd say their flavor forward, with less emphasis on bitterness (except for Are You Afraid of the Dank). The Simcoe and Citra do work well together. I even liked their Blonde ale, which had some hop flavor towards the end, which gave it more character than most Blondes.

Those bottles are gonna cost a pretty penny there,...

I was in the city a month or two ago as well, and stopped by both those places. Highly reccomended. Cellarmaker was great, and I really enjoyed everything I had there. Mikkeller Bar was pretty much just like it had been built up to me. Got to see a bit behind the scenes there, too. Their draft system is incredible. They have two different temperature keg fridges, that feed to a draft system that can mix 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% N2 into the CO2 just by swapping tube jumpers, and then the pressure of the gas is controlled after mixing, all on this huge board downstairs. They can then additionally control the flow rate from each tap at the tap itself to ensure proper head formation. And they have hellass Canty and other goodies chilling down there.

Sucks that City Beer Store was the venue chosen.

I won't be there.
Same here. It's a venue that literally fits like 40 people, and you want to hold one of the biggest beer events outside of beer week there? Yeah, okay, that makes sense.

I also can't wait to see the prices they're charging for the vintage stuff. If Rare is less than $200 I'll be shocked.

No kidding! This has disaster written all over it. I also love that it starts at 9 a.m. Nothing better than nerds pounding 15% beer at dawn to create a great scene...

But while you're there you can purchase there IPAs stored in front of their big ass window in a store that never seems to be below 80 degrees!

I thought I was going to ******* die during their last anniversary party, it was so hot in there.

Speaking of high bottle prices there, when I was there Saturday I noticed a bottle of PiaPT. Asked about it, but they said it wasn't in the system yet. What crazy price do you think they're selling it for?

When they first reopened in the current layout I think they were like $150. That was summer 2011, IIRC.
