Is there anything worth checking out beerwise in San Jose? I'll be in the area later this month to go to a Sharks game. Looks like Floodcraft is right down the street, but I'm open to going to other nearby places if anything stands out.
No, the beer scene in SJ is super weak, ripe for the picking id say but apparently they make it hard for breweries to move in. Good BBQ tho!

Definitely hangout and drink beer at Floodcraft/Whole Foods. It's an awesome patio with a great tap list, and one of my favorite places to drink beer before events at SAP. I usually just park at the Arena then walk to Whole Foods and tear up some taps.

Kids allowed there? The game starts at 1 PM, so that is definitely the most convenient (though all the other suggestions look great as well).

Yes sir. It's an upstairs patio/bar. Serves food, and you can grab whatever food from the whole foods too. All depends on weather though, hope to avoid a rainy day.

It can def get crowded quickly, especially during sharks games

My parents are heading down for the Seahawks game in a couple weeks and will have all day Saturday in SF. I’ve told them bars and breweries to hit up but I’m clueless on food recommendations.

Yeah, they're staying in Santa Clara across from the stadium but planned to spend all day Saturday in SF.

My mom doesn't like fish but is cool with shellfish. Everything else is fair game.

Are they trying to see normal SF stuff and have good food and drink along the way? Or are they trying to explore random neighborhoods bc there are good places to eat and drink there?

Burma superstar was fanstastic last time
I was in town (inner Richmond). Ate Thai at kin khao last night and it was delicious (union square)

El farolito (burritos) is another good spot.

Random neighborhoods for good eating and drinking. They’ve done the tourist ******** a million times.

I haven't been to Burma Superstar in a while. Are the lines still long as hell? Grocery Cafe in Oakland (Jack London Square) is fantastic and you don't have to mess with lines. They also offer some nice tea choices for folks who are into good tea.

In terms of Thai, there's also Essan Classic and Lers Ros for Northern Thai. If anyone's into Laotian, both Champa Garden and Chai Thai in Oakland are excellent.

As for burritos, to be honest, I'm not sure why folks love El Farolito so much. I know Bay Area natives love that place, but it's always been mediocre to me. YMMV, though, as I'm not the biggest Mission burrito fan.

Cancun is the taqueria of choice

The Richmond and Sunset districts are both great neighborhoods for all sorts of Asian cuisines. You can find some good dumpling spots, dim sum, Vietnamese, Burmese, etc. Highly recommend.

It's on my list for sure. This past weekend, I went to La Palma to pick up some dried chiles and tortillas. It's pretty hard to find fresh homemade tortillas for sale and this place is one of the view that I've managed to find. Decided to have a chile verde taco while I was there and it didn't disappoint.

Always a wait at OG Burma but the others like Alameda and Oakland are pretty manageable in my experience outside of peak times.

I mostly agree on Farolito, too. I think it’s good, but def prefer Taqueria (team no rice 4 life) or Cancun, and honestly prolly even Papalote over it.

Also, I would throw out House of ******* Prime Rib if them parentals haven’t experienced it yet.

La Taqueria does have a tasty burrito. So glad they don't use rice. I went to Pancho Villa a couple times in the early 2000s. Ordered a burrito the first time and was given one filled with rice. The second time I visited, I asked them not to put any rice and they complied, but filled it with beans instead. lol Never went back. These days, I stick to tacos at most places mostly because I like to get a variety of meats. Tacos Oscar, in Oakland, had their opening last night. It's a bit hipsterish, kind of on the level of Guerrilla Tacos in LA, but they're pretty good especially if you're down with homemade tortillas.

If they’re into beer and food, I thought the food at the new City Beer Store was pretty damn good, and they’ll have a good to great tap list. I know CBS gets some spite on here, but I think it’s A-ok, even if a little pricey. The vibe is also what I would consider “suitable for parents”, or at least, “suitable for my parents”.

Do they now allow under 21 in their space? I could be wrong, but I believe the old space was 21+ only.
