The Wiki writeup was interesting and makes sense, but I still don't see how this explanation exempts NorCal, which also has/d named freeways, from doing the same thing. The Bayshore Freeway, the Nimitz, and the 'ol Cypress all come to mind.
Just found it here:
Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco, unlike Los Angeles, seem to have had no overwhelming body of citizens in the 1950s and 1960s who grew up routinely driving cars all over the Bay Area. Outside their own cities and towns, more people took trains, buses, and ferries, which makes sense, considering the watery geography and ample public transit. For this reason, the Bay Area had only a handful of named freeways—Oakland had the Nimitz Freeway (today’s Interstate 880 from Oakland to San Jose) and the MacArthur Freeway northwest from Oakland; Berkeley had the Bayshore; San Francisco even had the Embarcadero Freeway (since torn down)—which were not so dyed-in-the-wool. Locals knew and used the names locally, but they evidently weren’t emblazoned Bay-wide in the minds and argot of northern drivers and direction-givers. No long tradition of regular, massive area-wide commutes by automobile presaged the interstate era in northern California. So when the Bay got its own large allotment of numbers, the the pattern to designate a modern superhighway was not so entrenched.

To those folks complaining about off-topic, pedantic arguing, I say go the **** back to BA.

No, because "highway" in that context *is* the article. So you can say "take Highway 17" or "take the 17," but not "take the Highway 17" or, like most NorCal folk, "take 17." If someone from the east coast was visiting, where they say the proper name of whatever expressway they're talking about and usually omit a number, they'd ask why the highway toll was so damn high if you just said "take 17 to Santa Cruz."

I will absolutely die on this hill.

Is the hill that you're dying on the one 17 crosses over on the way to Santa Cruz?

Note, I'm implying that by your knowledge and context of what I'm saying, there's an implied Highway being added to my statement - because I'm lazy and don't want to spell out the entire phrase every time. Especially when it's a more involved route like: "You take 17 to 880 to 238 to 580 to 24 to get to Lafayette from SC." 17 no longer is a number in this case, it's a contracted "Highway 17" and therefore you don't need the the.

I've had friends and coworkers from the east coast visit several times and they were never confused about tolls when giving them directions. I suppose it's a possibility that they're just smarter than your average person from that side of the country?

Finally, if you don't like how we say it up here, feel free to head on back down south.

Ok, well, that doesn't make you less wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I haven't seen this posted yet, and a search for Windsor didn't turn up anything, so here goes:

http://russianriverbrewing.com/blog/rrbc-windsor-location-is-official/

The new Windsor Russian River will include: a production brewery with the capacity to brew up to 50,000 barrels, tasting room, gift shop, guided and self-guided tours, and a larger brewpub with lots of outside seating!

I wonder if the releases will still be as ****** and mismanaged as they've been since 2011.

Snark aside, that's pretty cool. We have wine pickups in Healdsburg, and my wife is surprised whenever we drive past Santa Rosa and I tell her I have no interest in visiting RR. No wait would change my mind greatly, even if I feel their beer has slipped in the past few years. Yes, I like their pizza and Pliny Bites...

In Michigan, everyone always just said the abbreviation and the number appropriate.

Interstate Freeway 75: I-75
U.S. Highway 131: US-131
Michigan State Route 20: M-20

I was confused as hell when I became a reporter in Sonoma County and was told to correct US-101 to Highway 101, because "no one would know what I was talking about).

As former editor of the Windsor Times who was drinking at RR back in 2005, this actually does make me happy.

This is my situation completely. Stoked, though it'll be a few years before doors open.

Meh, I'm not stoked. They way Vinnie and The Clowns run their business is stupid. And, BTW, It's about ******* time they expanded!

Natalie: "Boy, we sure didn't expect these crowds again this year!"

Every. Damn. Year.

What it really means:
"Let's completely **** everyone over at every bottle release because we're ******** who love to bask in the glory of the shitshow hype!"

Fuuuck that.

****** A, my favorite part is how they are going to open this facility, and then shutter the current production brewery. Why increase production? Then the beer would be less .rar!

The wait is really kind of a thing of the past. Unless you go on beat, younger, or happy hour sunday I haven't had to wait to get into the pub in over a year. Wait for a table and food.... maybe, but I never wait to walk in and get a pint. And I am there at least once a week. Drive past twice a day on my way to and from work.

chemman14 the production capacity issue people just don't seem to get, and i'm not gonna risk death by gifs in trying to get all serious and talk about it. It's not as simple as just making more and I would think people in the game for a while understand that.

As far as releases... Beat was a nightmare this year but Younger has really been improved last two years. They keep people moving now. I go grab dinner at El Coqui and wander over to RR after 8pm and never have to wait more than 5-15 minutes to get in.

Man I got all Santa Rosa dickheaded and forgot what I came here to say.

Nate opened his new place The Local Barrel right around the corner from RR on Mendocino. Just head down 4th to Mendo and hang a right. Its past sift. I cant find a website but worth checking out if you are in the area for sure.

I think you mean Drew not Nate. If Nate isn't going to be involved, I won't bother going.

I am honestly super bitter over the way the beat release was handled. Never again RR

As a SR local, I assume that means you have the luxury of being able to go not on weekends.

bruh, you from the mitten too??

I never said it's better, but it suits me fine. I moved away and came back by choice. I love it here.

I would go to moonlight every damn weekend but I found that it's much more fun to study for my certification all day both days. Lunatic lager is so last week, I'm really into other consolidated income now.

I was at Moonlight a couple months ago and a local was telling me about this new brewery that paid the Local Barrel $ not to use the Seismic name and bought the name from the one in SD.
When you have $8M to build your brewery...

Well, if what happened when Korbel tried to get into brewing is any indication, their head brewer will eventually launch a revolutionary brewery of his own!

My experience is different as a non-local (relegated to weekends only). Here was my last trip in Aug 2015 (which, you're right, was a Sunday): http://www.talkbeer.com/community/threads/bay-area-thread.1300/page-189#post-755714

That's not their fault, really; they're popular, and they don't (didn't) want to expand by taking on debt and diluting the company. It's a very organic growth process where they've taken full ownership instead of borrowing. I love that. But at the same time, I have no interest in standing in line.

I recycled something like 10 RR growlers last week. I might have kept a couple if I had seen this news first. Oh well.

Every time I've tried to go to RR in the past two years it's been an hour wait or longer. Maybe Tuesday evening is fine but there's a reason for that: no one south of Novato goes there on weekdays. Weekends are brutal and will be until this place is open, and given the way beer is growing maybe not even then.
