Barley & wheat freezing while travelling?

I plan on buying some bags of barley & wheat at Morebeer, while in California for the Christmas holidays and returning to the midwest with the grains in the back of a pickup. Is the freezing of the barley & wheat going to be an issue?

Nope, cold is not an issue.
Just make sure the grain stays dry, that is important!

Good to know. It will be in a covered truck bed and wrapped in garbage bags.

My LHBS suggests putting grain in the freezer for 3 days, in fact he wont sell me a bag of grain that hasnt been in his freezer for 3 days. This will kill any bugs in the grain and then it should keep for a long time.

Maybe the freezing will do them good!

Cold storage near freezing to kill any grain beetles is way better than microwaving.
Don't do that - microwaving, I mean.
It kills the bugs but will denature the enzymes and make mash conversion very difficult.
