Awesome Retro Refrigerators

This is the fourth kegerator I've made. Friends kept offering me so much for them that I couldn't justify keeping them. This one is staying put.

There are very few times I'm blown away by how awesome something is, but i was browsing the "show us your kegerator" thread and came across this...magnificent beauty and the only thing I could think was "i want to go to there"

where do you guys find these old fridges? i suppose i could craigslist hunt for as long as it takes but there must be a better way. ive looked online and new theyre like 2 thousand dollars at least. im looking more to spend like...up to 200 bucks? im pretty broke but now the idea is in my head, i have to steal this idea lol

For $200 your going to find one that needs refinishing. Are you handy?

My friend has one that he uses as his actual kitchen fridge. His wife got it for $50 at a junkyard. Try estate sales also; he said that was were they started looking because a lot of old people kept their fridges forever. They are definitely awesome, I would love to get one for my kegerator when I move to a bigger house.

The problem with really old fridges like that is they're nowhere near as efficient as newer ones.

When I moved into the house I'm in now there was a 'fridge downstairs that looked like it was original to the late 50's when the house was built.

I loved the retro look; plugged it in, loaded it up with beer and let it go.

A few months later it got unplugged during some flooding and remained unplugged during cleanup.

We checked our electric bill the next month. There was about a $30 difference. The thing got unloaded shortly after.
