To answer the OP, it cannot be the correct way to drink a pbr. It does not involve a fixed gear bike, rolled jeans, ironic mustaches, washed out photography, slam poetry or some band that's "kind of obscure, you probably haven't heard of them."

Meh, it has its place. I'm a discriminating beer drinker 99% of the time, but once in a while I'll get a PBR or Old Mil at the bar.

I drank craft beer in college too, but if I had a buck back for every Miller Lite or High Life I chugged I would have a pretty little stash. lol

I wasn't cheap, I was poor. Mommy and Daddy didn't keep me in beer.

And if you think PBR is awful, you've never had Schaefer. Didn't have to worry about friends stealing it out of my fridge.

My favorite bar has PBR pints for a buck. I usually start with 1 or 2 of those before switching to my favorite 7% IPA. Saves money and helps me stay sober. It's not the best beer in the world but it certainly beats BMC.

I have a rule if someone offers me a beer, I take it and drink with a smile on my face it doesn't matter what it is. I like some, other not so much but when you start refusing a beer offered by a friend you crossed the line where you have to start thinking about how to get you head out of your ass.

Flip that around and it would be better. Kill the pallate with an awesome IPA, then you don't have to taste the PBR.

I tried that once, after having the IPA the PBR definately has no taste.

Should I dig up the thread from several months ago about HBT versus The Brewing Network? Elitism is nothing new 'round these parts.
And I'll never understand the notion that it's hip to be ghetto or hip to be poor. None of you know me, so it's silly and incorrect of you to think I'm elitist because of a few sentences I write on a message board, but might as well perpetuate the illusion.

In regards to the "i was a poor college student" argument, I have this to retort: I cooked 99% of my meals while in college, and by budgeting responsibly I was able to "splurge" on craft beer. It's funny to me that people justify spending 9 or 10 dollars on a 30 pack of camel urine lite and pounding it in two days, when I'd spend just as much money on a premium 6 pack that would last me an entire week--if not longer. I'm not saying I don't drink adjunct lagers. If forced, I would say I'm a Coors Light fan myself, although I only drink it a couple times a year. But I'm not going to sit here and pretend it's some amazing beer simply because it coincides with a certain time period in my life.

The Light Lager world (surprising as it may be to those of us with a passion for craft beer) has it's place. I find myself caving and picking up a 12 pack of Olympia once or twice a year when the weather gets hot and there's barbequing to be done. Would I rather drink a Pliny? Sure. But sometimes those cheap adjunct lagers hit the spot at a given time and place... they don't belong in the trash... and what you posted smacks of extreme elitism. Enjoying beer is a matter of taste, and tastes do differ. Live and let live is a better attitude to have around these parts.

I see your point, but some people could eat ramen noodles all the time, not drink beer AT ALL, and still not have money left over in college.

I felt fortunate to be able to drink a 6 pack of craft beer a month, and then crappy beer the rest of the time.

Ugh this is so over done.

I like PBR. I like spending $3 at the bar for a pounder and a shot. I have more issue paying $35-40 for a case of some crafts than paying $40 for 2 30 racks. I don't claim it's beer heaven and neither does anyone else.

Forget the beer snobbery part of his post. I find it more interesting that this guy blasts people who have fond connections to good times in their pasts. Say what you want about Fat Tire, but that beer was with me all through the Army (no college memories for me until I was 30 ), and I will always love it. People say it has changed, that its bad now and that New Belgium only makes it to stay in business, but I still smile anytime I see the neon bike in a window and rush in to grab a pint. And wanna-be beer snb wil ever make me feel ashamed of that
