I'M BACK!!! About a year ago, I had everything ready to do a 1 gallon batch of Northern Brewer Caribou Slobber when medical hurdles delayed it in mid-launch. After scraping it, I went to a local supply house and put together a recipe for my favorite ale, Fat Tire (a clone), that was a partial mash. I think the amount of water was screwed up with 3 qts water to steep the grain, then 1 1/2 qts to rinse out the grains at the end of the steeping....no other water added. I ended up at quite a bit less than a gallon. I added RO water at the beginning of the fermentation, but had some concern of doing that. Does this august group think that was wrong?? Also, what would be the estimate the two additions of water in the original recipe should have been?
