It seems that most areas outside of the south are really catching on to the craze.

I just checked my Google Earth overlay to be sure. Within a 30 minute drive of my house, I've been to 11 breweries. There's 4 more off the top of my head that I haven't been to yet, and a few more in the planning phase. There's also two distilleries in Brooklyn right near where I work.

Just a minute there buddy. According to the Brewers Association 2010 report, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina all have more breweries per capita than New York with my fair state of North Carolina having the most in the South.

Too bad Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia are also part of the south then huh (especially those first two backwards states)? I wasn't talking about a particular state; the South as a region is certainly the most "dry" area of the nation. Maybe NC and Virginia should separate themselves by sticking with the "Mid-Atlantic" moniker instead. And I was born in NC, so this isn't some "Yankee" thing.
