Excessive consumption of Apfelwein WILL get you drunk at warp speed.
Drink a quart of water and take 3 aspirin before going to sleep tol help reduce the effects of excessive Apfelwein consumption as well as the urge to call EdWort a M'F**kR the next morning!![]()
Don't forget the general warnings on Apfelwein!!!
I just made my first batch of Apfelwein and I airlocked it before I moved it to the fermentation closet. Some vodka from the air lock looked like it got into the fermenter. Is this gonna cause a problem?
I see everyone on this forum loves this stuff. My question is this. I was never a big fan of Shandy or Magners when I was in London and the last time I had Cider Jack was quite a few years ago and I only felt so so about it. Knowing this would it be worth it for me to brew a batch of this?
No brewing necessary. This will be the easiest 5 gallon you'll ever do!

Sure. But if I were you, I would just add an extra gallon of apple juice and make 6 gallons worth. Make it easy on yourself and stick with 2 pounds of sugar. Can I use a 6 gal carboy or is less headspace desirable?

I usually only use a pound of sugar when I make my 3 gallon batches. It has plenty of alcohol at that level.
I think you will like it. It's a very dry wine with a hint of apple sourness after-taste. I prefer to bottle it sparkling at a rate of an ounce of corn sugar per gallon of apfelwein. The carbonation seems to bring out more of the flavors and it also makes it a bit crisp.
Heh. I plan on blowing 3 cases of home brew next week: Family, friends, Christmas, entire week off.... I would probably blow more if I was in NJ.Sounds good. I think i will give it a go when my carboy empties around Christmas. I need to slow some batches down because I can't empty my bottles fast enough haha! this sounds great because it is a longer ferment time and will set me up for some good Feb-March brewing!![]()
