After 10+ hours of labor starting at 12:30 AM and finishing with a surgical assisted delivery my wife gave birth to our second child and first daughter Catherine:ban:. We have been stuck in the hospital for 2 nights now and with a college home football game (Iowa Hawkeyes) being played just across the street I cannot leave the hospital grounds to buy a beer to celebrate. Traffic has been such a mess around the area that none of my friends could drop by with a care package to help us celebrate. So if you need a reason to raise another pint of glorious homebrew this evening that would be great.:mug:

Thanks everyone. This picture is just a few minutes old. Our baby is able to sleep through all of the noise of the Iowa Hawkeye fans next door. (However, the Hawkeyes are currently losing to Penn State by 30 points.) We are celebrating with apple juice and cranberry juice instead of beer. We hope to go home tomorrow afternoon.

I think that all world leaders should have to spend a few days a year attending the birth of a child to see just how precious new life is. Perhaps this may lead to the concept of war becoming extinct in our lifetimes. I would be happy if we could settle international incidents with brew-offs and drinking contests instead of with death and destruction.

Congratulations. I'm supposed to make #2 with SWMBO tonight, here is to trying! Cheers.

lol @ dfc

Congrats. I've pulled my first pint of roasty stout here in celebration. It's not quite like having a newborn, I suppose. But I feel your joy. Congrats again. May you both grow together.

Thanks everyone. The last 48 hours have been very rough. Several hours after being home my wife developed a severe infection from the surgery that delievered our daughter and had a fever set in driving her temperature up to 104 F. A very quick return to the hospital has helped get the right treatments to break this fever and put her in a position to hopefully come home tomorrow. At the high point of the fever she became a bit out of sorts and started asking questions like "do we have any beer for me to drink when we get home?" She has been abstaining from beer for the past 11 months and forgot that not only do we have a 6 tap keezer but there is one tap containing an age Russian Imperial Stout brewed just for her.

Thanks again for everyone's kind thoughts and wishes.

Thought I would give everyone an update. About 30 hours after my wife's second trip to the hospital (the first was for the birth of our daughter and the second was for the infection from the c-section) i had to yet again drive her back to the hospital for treatment of this recurring infection/fever driving her temp back to 104 F. She has been there for several night and it looks like she won't be back home for 1-2 more days.
