I'm going to be building a hopstopper soon for my new rig and need some help with mesh sizes. Anyone out there actually build and use a hopstopper with a plate chiller? I've found a couple older threads that never really came to a conclusion. I have a 28-28 mesh with a .010 wire diameter and I don't think it's going to work. I took about 2-3 ounces of old pellet hops and soaked them until the were just particles. I then poured that mixture over the mesh which was sitting over a 2 qt pot. The end result was a bit greener then I want, and not in the good way.

I do!

I use pellet hops, about 3 to 4 oz in a 10 gal batch.

I use nylon hop bags and a homemade hop taco.

My plate chiller remains very clean, and never gets stuck draining.
(I use gravity from pot to chiller to carboy)

No worries!

I'd like to stay awy from the hop bags, however, what size mesh did you use for you hopstopper?
