I haven't ever tasted a brett infected beer. Is it worth the $$ for this one? If you think so and can hook me up w/ one I can Paypal or send $$.

I would strongly reccommend trying another sour beer locally unless you can't find one. It's not for everyone. If you are still interested and can wait a few weeks, I might be able to hook you up.

At the same time, it really is a great example of the style.

That may be some good advise. I will look around. Any you might suggest that is available on the open market?

Thanks for the heads up. I have always wondered about the Brett infected brews. I just (almost) have a problem drinking something that is called "Infected" :D

I'm not overly familiar with those beers but Rodenbach Grand Cru and New Belgium La Folie are two I can think of.
 
I'm not that familiar with Belgian style beers. Where would New Belgium's Abbey rank among these? I just had it recently and liked it.

The NB Abbey Ale is a pretty great beer. It is more like a dubbel than any of the other beers we're talking about. No brett character or anything like that. Just a good, clean Belgian.
 
Wow, that's totally different than what I thought. I had a Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale Special Reserve as my first sour. I think if the Dissident would have been my first sour beer, I would have searched more out faster. To Each There Own.

Don't get me wrong, the Dissident didn't share the qualities that I've disliked in Deschutes' other beers. I was quite fond of it, actually.
 
Does anyone know if The Dissident is bottle conditioned? I tried searching around the net and couldn't find a definitive answer, but I suspect it is. I still have a few bottles left and I'm planning on sharing one with a friend this evening and who knows how long it will be before I open another bottle.

I might try to save the dregs and pitch them into some starter wort with oak in it I have sitting around for this occasion. Though I suspect that the bugs they used come from Wyeast

Edit: I just looked at my bottle that has been chilling and I couldn't see anything on the bottom of the bottle, but I couldn't find a flashlight to get a really good look.
 
There's no sediment at the bottom of my bottles. I think you might be out of luck.

edit: you're probably right about the wyeast thing. Just try a batch with the roselare blend.
