So I have obviously became too comfortable with technology. Just made a starter for a brew I'm doing tomorrow and used my relatively new (used twice) digital probe thermometer. All went well and it was time to cool the wort, so I placed my flask in an ice bath and set the alarm for 72* and started prepping equipment for tomorrow. Well two hours later and I was still hovering over 80*. I knew something wasn't right so pulled it out of the ice bath and put my dial thermometer in, needless to say I was hovering around 50-55*. I currently have the flask just sitting at room temp trying to let it warm up gradually so that I can pitch the yeast. Is anyone aware of any problems this may cause with the starter?

Thanks :mug:

An ice bath cooled the flask, a warm water bath will heat it back up. I'd get the wort to proper temperature before pitching, there's no sense shocking the yeast...

Cheers!
