thank you... If it wasn't for you, I was going to have to part with some of my precious bottles... :(

Awesome!

Oh no it wasn't that big of a deal, I just was doing some math and in 2-3 weeks I'm going to have about 50 gallons of beer sitting around, and I can keg a lot of that but I only have so many kegs, and can only drink so fast haha.

I have more than I can use at the moment... Hmmmm.. May have to share a little! Lol

dang Eric...I only have about 20 gallons in the ferment freezer... :) We are going to have to do some trading... :)

Rockin_P- I can't brew any more until I empty a primary... :(

Has anybody done any sours yet? I've got 3 different ones going. 5gal Consecration clone, 2.5gal sour stout, and 1gal golden sour. I've got 1 keg going of a hoppy red I screwed up and over carbed. And I have 4gal of Imperial Saison in going to keg next weekend.

Well, I went ahead and jumped into the deep end of all grain today...decided to go ahead and brew a Smash to start with...if it all goes south, I'm out $17 of grain and hops. But seems to be going well thus far. Was a little low on mash temp @152 and it dropped to 148 during the mash(need to insulate the cooler lid of thr cheap cooler). Pre boil gravity was 1.027 @152 degrees which matched what the android app I'm using called for...I'm hoping that isn't adjusted for temp...cooled some wort down and got a Pre boil gravity of 1.043@60 degrees...so I'm thinking things seem okay thus far...

As for what it is...I'm calling it a Blonde. Online tools seems to concur. 9.5 lbs of Maris Otter and Centennial hops. Only .5 Oz to the boil. Will throw the other .5 in dry later... so kind of sweet, minimal hops...something my wife and her Mic Ultra drinking friends might drink...fingers crossed.

*****UPDATE******
=====EDITED - Remembered my hydrometer reads high. Doesn't change too much...=====

Ended up with 5.5 gallons @ 1.053 OG. Seems to calculate out to like 80% mash efficiency. So I'm either miscalculating, did something right or got lucky... We'll see how the fermentation goes...pitching washed Notty yeast starter from my last batch, just to see if I can without screwing things up. Again, I'm in for $17 thus far... Hoping it doesn't dry out too much with the low mash temps...but overall just hoping it makes drinkable beer...

Not intentionally. :D I do have a couple cases of a lacto infected Spiced Winter Ale...confirmed by my Medical Technologist wife. Leaving it for a few months to see if it will ever let any more taste through than sour... I'm not particularly a fan of sours, although it took me a year or so to become an IPA fan...so who knows that the future might bring... :tank:

I love sours! I have very little of my last lambic left, but I have some hops aging and am thinking about doing a giant batch of fruit lambic, say 20 gallons. I have never had a really sour stout, but have made a Guiness clone many times where I soured the mash. I've never tried Consecration but would love to, did you find it anywhere around here or did you do a trade?

As for my brewing lately, let's just say there's another 10 gallons of Irish Red in the world. Thinking about doing a blueberry blonde next.

I'm the same way. I didn't like IPA's when I started brewing. Now that's almost all I brew. I didn't care much for my first couple of sours I tried. Then I had Love Child #2 and I've never looked back.

I traded for a bottle of Consecration.
I haven't tried it yet. Grapevine and Wines on Rodney Parham had a Russian River tasting a couple months ago. Apparently one if their ex employees moved out to CA and sent them a whole bunch of beer. I tried Pliny, Supplication, Sanctification, and Consecration. All were amazing. My Consecration is only 6 months old so it has a ways to go.

Hey Guy's sorry I missed out on hooking up during my trip home over New Years. My Wonderful Mother passed away and...... well nuff said!

I did get a new brew stand (built by my talented Son in Law) and two 30 Gal Blichmans from Mrs. Claus for Christmas. Didn't get a chance to fire it up though. I will be back in the states in the May / June time frame. I may need a little help from one of you who can steer me in the right direction on propane burners. I'll post pics later so you can see what issues I have to work around.

Take Care Hillbillies!

Honestly The Ride has several bikes in there on consignment so you may find more than you'd expect. CL will be a good option too. Checkout pinkbike.com's classifieds as well. I think 20" all the way down to 17.5" depending on the geometry of the frame would work for you. I have an 18.5 and I'm 6'1. For $700 you can get more than a hardrock in the used market for sure.

Ended up with an Orebea MX 20 29er, only road a few times and scored it for 500 bucks, plus it had the rack and bag on it. MSRP is 969, although mine is a year model back I believe, but I still feel like I got a good deal, and a great bike. I did check out the ride, but didn't have anything used I was looking for. The service was great though, will definitely be going back in there for accessories. I've only had a chance to ride a couple times, but I love it. My ass is killing me though, but I'm going out again tomorrow evening.

As for beer, I guess I'm going to brew that blueberry blonde since I'm so low on specialty grains and hops at the moment, and I have a ton of frozen blueberries. Think I'm going to call it "Brewing Bad".

sorry to hear about your mom...lost my about 3 years ago and think about her often.

Give us a shout when you get home, but don't expect to see any fancy Blickmans at my place... :)

BTW-nice bike Eric!

Well.... You wouldn't have seen Blichman's at my place either, if my wife had listened..... I had two Spike's 20 Gallon kettles picked out. She ended up at Great Fermentations and he had the two Blichman's in stock..... He gave her a discount. I look forward to meeting up with you guys, having a cold one and brewing! I should be home again in the June time frame and be home for good by late fall.

Eric... that is a nice Bike..... I use to love riding in the Devil's Den area.... The Hill's kicked my butt!!!!!

Ha.... Well that would be the only thing remotely sexy that involved me.... other than SWMBO that is..... Now I need to get a few of you guys over to the house for a cold brew and to brain storm and help me work out the propane set up and point me in the right direction on finishing out the build... Looking for advice! I've got a plan and I got the pieces and parts (pumps, tri-clover connections, valves, tubing and the works).

As soon as I unpacked all this stuff my mom took a turn for the worst and I didn't get a chance to touch it again until I had to board the plane. I've cut my teeth over the years brewing on a turkey fryer and using gravity to my advantage. I'm looking forward to my first brew session on the new build and hoping you Gent's will join me!!!!

Welcome! Best of luck with the move. If you decide to sell some ball locks so you can get sankes let me know. I could always use a few more.

I've been piecing an electric system together now for about 2 years. I'm building a recirculating BIAB setup. I'm to the point now where I need a control panel. I'd like to build my own, but I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to wiring something other than a light switch. I may just end up buying one. What kind of system are you building?

Sorry about the late response, but I have been packing for my move, I hope my next trip up will be 27-29 Feb. My load has both of my fermentation freezers with my Blichmann 14 gallon units. My system has 3 Blichmann 20 gallon pots and the Brew Kettle & the Hot Liqueur Tank both have 5500 watt hot water heater elements. Each uses 23.5 amps of 240 VAC so if you fire both up, like a double batch day, you will need a 50 amp circuit (4 total, 2 per element). I have 40 amp SSR (Solid State Relays), one per 115 leg so they are very under rated and should last a long time. Regular relays will not last as they will burn up due to how they are used. As you approach your desired temperature they start pulsing the element and I have seen mine down to 10% on time. I can usually get 1 degree F accuracy as I have a RIMS system so during mash my mash and hot liqueur tank are both recirculating (my HLT has a 1/2" 50' heat exchanger coil in it for the wort from the MLT). I only start recirculating my BK in the last 20 minutes to sterilize my lines and plate chillers. Elco, owner of BrewPi is working on the capability of downloading your recipes from Brewers Friend to load directly into the controller which will be very easy once you go through the learning/set up.

Really sorry to hear about your mom.

Am looking forward to doing some brewing though. What kinda beer do you have in mind?

I am moving forward with my fully enclosed metal building to brew in, it's going to be 12x24, insulated with electrical and plumbing. I really wanted to get my electric brewery up and going but this is just something that needs to happen.

Your system sounds really similar to what I'm going to build. I would love to see it operating, although I'm sure it will only make me want one more.

I'm still planning my Brewing Bad Blueberry Ale, and may start a 3 gallon batch of Orange Vanila Mead later. Krogers in Conway has a nice raw honey for a good price that I love. I have an oatmeal stout cold crashing, I may bottle tomorrow since I manged to scrape up enough bottles, a.k.a I drank some beer haha.

Took my bike out again today, last pic of it I promise, and to balance things out I added some random beer porn from my "collection". Enjoy.

Got the batch of Orange Vanilla Mead going earlier this evening. We try to keep at least a 1 gallon batch of mead fermenting around here all the time. Wife loves it, plus it's really fun and simple to make. The honey at Kroger's in Conway that I use often, is called "Mountain Ridge Pure Raw Honey". Although I've made plenty of mead without fruit, I usually make it with, (melomel). I've tried a lot of different yeast too but lately I have discovered how much I love Coates De Blanc, especially in a melomel. It leaves behind a very tiny amount of sweetness, and doesn't destroy any delicate fruit flavors. Bob didn't you have a batch of JAOM going? I used the little halo oranges in this one, will add the vanilla at bottling time.

just finished and bottled my JAOM...my first mead and I love it. I have tried several meads made by others but this one turned out awesome. I only have a few bottles, but one is for you Eric. :mug:

That sounds awesome and I'm glad it turned out good. As for your Copper Sulfate, if I remember right it's a blue looking powder used by chemists mostly as a catalyst for other reactions. Citric acid can be used to lower your mash pH but for some reason (could be flavor) brewers prefer lactic acid.

I don't think I'm working tonight, so I may go ahead and bottle that oatmeal stout. I'll put a 6er back for ya Bob, or for anyone else who wants some is welcome to it.

I've had the JOAM recipe earmarked for a couple of years now. I just never get around to making it. I'm always looking to find aiming the wife will like. She's not a big beer person. Glad to hear it turned out great. I need to make it soon!

That sounds awesome! I'd love to see it in action sometime. Good luck with the move.

bottled my Yellow Fizzy Beer (SMaSH) today...all 2 row with all US Goldings hops...6.17%...tastes like it will be very easy drinking when carbed... :)

Nice! I'd love to try one. I am getting ready to bottle a batch and keg a batch on my next day off. I am sending these out on Tuesday, wish me luck!

taking advantage of the warm weather and making some beer... another batch of Yellow Fizzy Beer but with 5# of 2 row and 5# of Vienna...and 1# of oats just for fun. I'm also playing with BIAB just for fun...so far so good.

wow...that's a big one... :)

I just finished helping a friend make his 2nd batch... Black Scapular Dubbel... ended up with 6 gallons and an OG of 1.090! He came over last Sunday and we brewed his first batch- a nice Nut Brown Ale. He's so hooked that he ordered 3 AG kits from NB while he was here watching the boil... LOL.

Actually it's a Chesnut Brown Ale that Nolan @ The Water Buffalo hooked me up with.
