another stir plate build question

I have 6 of these fans. Are they good candidates for stir plates? My electrician friend says they will spin really fast.

That's a AC motor. Most of the builds here are with low voltage DC stuff. A little more forgiving for the DIY build. Don't use it with a rheostat from the shack. You might get a light dimmer to work to regulate speed.

They will work, but like starman says, you will need a light dimmer switch to control the speed. Also, just from experience with high speed fans, make sure you have really strong magnets.
