Hi.

My name's Mike, and I'm just getting started. I decided on picking up a starter kit from Northern Brewer, which I'll be ordering in a couple days (once my Pell Grant check arrives) and the brewing shall commence immediately! :)

Right now I'm basically spending time looking at different styles to try and goofing around with Photoshop coming up with labels. :) I'll poke around a bit and find the answers to my questions (which I'm sure have been answered here already) before posting anything.

Back to work I go... *sigh* I hate working on the weekends.

Hi Mike!

Wait, that sounds too much like a greeting at an AA meeting. Not that I'd know anything about that...............................

Anyway, welcome to the obsession, Mike. Look around, and let us know if we can answer any questions you may have. People will tell you that there is no such thing as a dumb question, so feel free to ask.

I will tell you that there ARE dumb questions, but not brewing related dumb questions. To see what I mean, check out our drunken ramblings forum sometime, where in some of our "deeper" moments, some of us have questioned the meaning of life, as well as the meaning of the lacing on our glasses.

What kind of beer are you leaning towards making?

Right now I plan on sticking with almost-idiot-proof extract kit ales while I figure things out. I don't want to invest in a lot of equipment and jump in while I'm still learning. Eventually I'll take the training wheels off.

That's fine- there is nothing wrong with a good extract kit and you can make some fine beer. What style of beer are you thinking of making?

I'm planning on starting out with a hefeweizen, since it's currently my favorite style. Once I get that down, I'll start branching out a bit more.

Welcome to HBT and good luck with the first brews! this is a great form of info and some great people on this board!
