Anchor steam- which NB hops?

Does anyone know if anchor steam uses german or us northern brewer hops? I've never used the American version and didn't realize they are different cultivars until some recent reading. If anyone can describe the difference between the two that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

From a quick googlefoo the German ones are a slight bit more aromatic than its us counterpart.

Thanks. I've read many of the general descriptions and what not, and I've been using german nb for years (have over a lb in the freezer But digging through recipes you rarely see us or german nb specified, unlike ,say, us and kent goldings, or saaz, ect. You will also see anchor steam mentioned under nb descriptions on Web sites, both us and german. I'm not sure I've tried us nb and thought since anchor steam is in the us and all, maybe I'm missing something with my calI common recipe. Thanks again.

I've always used the German Northern Brewer hops in my California Steamin' Common Beer, if that helps.

Me too! I love a cali common, and anchor steam was my favorite beer in the early days of commercial craft beer.
