I brewed the carmel amber ale recipe last sunday. I opened my bucket today to get a gravity reading, as it stopped bubbling two days ago. All I see is a foamy substance on top, that also is in my blow off tube. I would have expected the krausen to have fallen by now. Am I infected? It smells good when i open the lid as well. If I was infected, I would think that it would not still smell pleasent.

It is krausen.

Put the lid back on, change the blowoff tube for a bubbler, do not open the lid for three weeks.

Yes, it seems to be totally infected with yeast. I think you are going to end up with a pail full of beer.

You're not infected. Those pics show some great home made beer in the making!

chill out dude

Kill it with fire.

Beer is fine, its krausen. Perfectly normal at your age. Nothing to be ashmed of, just don't do it in public.

Wait a few weeks, cold crash. Then bottle.

Cheers:)

Thanks for the reassurance. It is my first all grain batch, sixth batch in all. I'm used to the krausen falling and being gone by this point. Maybe a difference b/w all grain and extract, I dont know?
