How much do folks compensate for alpha acid degradation over storage time? For example BSM advises 50% loss over six months? Does anyone out there use these guidelines to directly re-proportion their bitter hop bill? IE doubling down for the above example?...

Viewers, here's the answer. Yes, If you steep black patent at knockout it'll blacken your beer without adding flavor.

When I walk through the park, I typically whistle.

My response has as much to do with the original as does yours

The HSI (hop stability index) is a measure of the loss of AAs over 6 months when the hops are left in air at 70 F.

Keeping hops bagged, and cool will help. Vacuum packed and in the freezer is about the best we can do as home-brewers.

I use BeerSmith to calculate the loss of AAs. You can dial in your storage conditions.

Ok thanks. Open air and room temp vs any reasonable storage makes 50% seem overkill.
