Did you end up having your big Allagash tasting the other weekend? Curious to hear how the older ones are doing.

Drank a bunch of them, didn't make it through nearly all of them. I also didn't have a TON of the really old ones, missing the coolest ones. But, my thoughts:
  1. Victor Franc: Clearly old, but a remarkable amount of fruit left. Slightly oxidized (which is what I mean when I say "old," I think), and carb was starting to go, which hurt it. Nevertheless, drinking surprisingly well. I would absolutely trade for another even though I gave up a lot to tick this. The bottle I opened was cellared very well.
  2. Old HLT: Not great. Something weird starting to develop. Kinda medicinal/phenolic. Not a lot of cherry left. Definitely some oxidation. Full carb, though.
  3. Ghoulschip b1: Not great either. Not really any strong flavor. Just kinda tasted like a boring sour blondish beer with some weird notes that tasted like they were molasses-ey.
  4. Red (2/6/2012): absolutely ******* unbelievable. Better than fresh, I dare say - and I never like aged framboise very well. Honestly better than just about any authentic lambic I've ever had.
  5. Cerise (2012, the weird batch that was like 8% ABV): Good, but falling off. Not as much cherry left as I thought there would be. Surprised this was falling off so fast, but it really was. Apparently does not hold up like a lambic.
  6. Nancy: Fresh, tasty, cherry. I read some negative reviews of this one, but I really liked it.
  7. Little Sal: Not great. Never was great, though, IMO. Stupid that this beer traded for so much, etc. One of the less great Allagash 375s I've ever had. Hasn't gotten noticeably worse, or better. Others I shared with this loved this beer, but I just am not into it. This is either the second or third time I've had it.
  8. Tiarna: CLEARLY the second best bottle of the night behind the '12 Red. I did not like this beer fresh, and I am absolutely stunned by how good it is now. It tastes like an HF saison. I have a lot more of these because it was all over the shelf, and I'm really happy. Going to drink one tonight I think, actually!
  9. Midnight Brett: I was kinda drunk at this point, but this was not good. I drainpoured it. Weird rotten fruit character going on.
  10. Golden Brett: Quite good still. Starting to fall off a bit.

Great breakdown, thanks! Good to hear about Tiarna, was hoping that would be the case over time with that bottle.

2012 Resurgam is so freaking good right now.

I got the same thing on a bottle of Old HLT I opened 2 weeks ago. Must of been a recent development too bc I drank a few 8-10months ago and they were great.

Sitting in the SFO airport right now but I saw Nancy on the shelf in the Bay Area for $15-16/bottle.

Any word on wild friendship blend? Haven't heard anything since it went in bottles.

No, but I'd advise people against getting their hopes up that bottles will be "released" and sold to-go (aka, showing up on trade boards). From what I've gathered it will be a ticketed on-premise event which includes a tasting. But this is based only on casual chats with staff, nothing has been said officially yet so who knows, we just have to keep waiting...

I saw it at Amity for that price and while I didn't know what the cost should actually be, it seemed a pretty safe bet that it was overpriced. I still considered picking it up due to also not wanting to try tracking it down elsewhere, but since I'm moving in a week or so I figured it was a pretty bad idea to add another bottle of beer to the cellar and then have to relocate it shortly while simultaneously overpaying for it.
