I'm new to brewing and bought a lager kit not realizing that I don't have a way to lager beer at low temperature. I don't want the kit to go to waste so I was wondering if I could substitute the dry lager yeast with an XL 1007 GERMAN ALE YEAST smack pack. Will this produce a good tasting beer or would I be wasting my time? Here are the ingredients in the lager kit that I have:

5 lbs. of Canadian light syrup
2 lbs. of English malt syrup
2 lbs. Bonlander malt
1.5 oz. Hallertau hop pellets (thinking of increasing to 3.5 oz?)
1 packet of Saflager lager yeast (would like to use ale yeast here)
3/4 cup priming sugar

I would up the hops on that. Nine pounds of malt and only 1.5 oz of hops is going to yield a ridiculously sweet beer. You're going to have to let that one ferment for a while to eat up all that sugar.

Go for hte German Ale Yeast. It should still have a nice malty taste as you'd expect from a lager, but just won't be quite as clear, crisp, and clean as it would with a lager yeast and a lagering period. Let us know how it turns out.

I'd also agree to up the hops!

You will do no harm by using the lager yeast provided and allowing to ferment at room temps. I do this deiberately when making my CACNACA cream ale.
