Hey all,
I am doing mini mash recipes and will occasionally add in a 1% boost. Since I am adding in as much as two gallons of water before measuring gravity I am having a hard time mixing it well enough to get a solid OG. so my question is does the alcohol boost raise the OG or lower the final? My guess would be the latter.

Usually, both. But, it depends.

The OG goes up about 9 pounds for a pound of sugars adds about 9 points to the OG. The FG may or may not be lower, depending on the attenuation of the beer.
