So i hear all you guys put vodka in the airlock in case of a suck-back, no harm done, just a higher ABV.

Can you put rum instead? I don't have any vodka on hand and don't feel like making a liquor run.

Thanks,

Dave

Yea you can probably use any liqour I think the main reason is vodka doesnt really carry an aroma or overpowering flavor, even the cheap stuff. Its not like 1/4oz of rum is going to make much of a difference either.

They are both sanitary, Ive even heard people using gin and other stuff.

Rum should be fine
Vodka would be fine
Water and sanitizer should be fine

If you do get suck back, its only a little of the 1/2 ounce or so an airlock holds. When you factor that into 5 gallons of beer.... RDWHAHB!!!:mug:
